It's a combination smoke detector / carbon monoxide detector. There are a million of them on the market. So how does the Ecoey Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector distinguish itself? I installed this in my kids' room, and will run down its strengths as well as throwing out a few installation tips.ADVANTAGES* The purpose of a smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector is to save your life. No smoke detector in the history of the world has saved a life without batteries. Yet there are millions of smoke detectors attached to America's ceilings with the battery yanked out by homeowners. This detector doesn't give you the choice: it's a sealed design with an embedded battery. When the battery dies in ten years or so, you throw the detector away and buy a new one. There is no ambiguity about whether the detector has power or not, or its capacity to save your life. This is the right design choice for a critical piece of lifesaving equipment.* This detector looks cool, vaguely resembling a '50s-era flying saucer. As a student of aesthetics, I can assure you some team really thought about the look and feel of this smoke detector. If you put it in your kids room, rest assured they will think it is awesome. Wanna be SuperDad or SuperMom? Buy some glow-in-the-dark stars to surround it.* This detector can form a "network" of detectors of the same type. An alarm on one will be mirrored on the others, allowing whole-house safety.* The Ecoey detector can teach you a bit of French, and/or save the lives of your French-speaking house guests. Knowing "Incindie" or "Attention! Monoxide de carbon!" might prove useful when you're traveling abroad.* I liked the clarity of the test function on this detector. There is no ambiguity concerning whether the detector is working or not.OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT* The directions are printed super-small and are impossible for many people to read, even people with acute eyesight.TIPS* To install, you'll screw a thin ring into your ceiling, and then align and turn the detector into that ring. Be aware that this is difficult and a little frustrating. After the tenth time trying to get it to engage, you will wonder if there is a problem with your ring, or if you broke it somehow. You did not. Keep trying to get it aligned and turned into place. You will get there with persistence. Eventually the detector will engage to the ring and be attached securely to the ceiling. The act of properly mounting the detector on the ring breaks some tabs which activates the detector battery. You should be good to go for the next decade.

This took months to arrive and the instructions are terrible. After spending hours with it we were unable to get power to the unit which was suppose to be automatic when placed into the mounting disc. A complete waste of time and energy. Do not recommend.***Update*** We were discussing whether to toss it in the trash, as it had been laying on our table since the initial review, but I decided to pick it up and try the test button one last time. The test button worked but it didn’t stay green as it was supposed to. So, we won’t throw it away but we bought a replacement as I’m not confident it can be trusted. Upgraded to two stars.

There are 2 different alerts, one for CO and one for smoke. Although they are different beeps, remembering which is which is unlikely. However, along with the beeps there is a voice alert that says what the alert is (and then repeats it in Spanish). When installing the device in the base, it may feel like you have rotated it fully but the test doesn't work. If you didn't hear a click, then you have not rotated it completely. You need to push a bit harder at the end until you hear a click, then you will not be able to turn it back without pressing the release lever on the base.Test works, but short of a fire or CO leak I can't test further but all indications are it works properly.

I bought the Ecoey - Wireless, Interconnected, Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with 10-year Batteries, Pre-Installed for my hallway. This seems like a nice quality Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector, and it has nice features—such as the ability to wirelessly, inter-connect up to 18 Detectors, together. I like that this Detector can warn the user about smoke/fire and carbon monoxide, and I like that the (pre-installed) batteries last 10-years.The only thing that would keep me from purchasing this particular Smoke/Fire/Carbon Monoxide Detector, in the future, is that it exceeds my budget—especially since there is so much competition, for a lesser dent in the wallet; as a result, I rate this product with 4-Stars.

This is an excellent smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Easy to install and use due to the user friendly instructions. The alarms and voice sirens/alerts are loud and will definitely get your attention. The battery life is 10 years which is exceptional, but a battery replacement is necessary after that. I love that there isn’t any wiring required. The functionality and design is terrific.

I recently received this combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector, and I’m impressed by how easy it is to install and activate once the bracket is securely attached.Pros:10-year non-replaceable battery ensures long-term reliability without frequent maintenance. Can be paired with other detectors if you own more than one, enhancing overall safety coverage.Loud voice and siren alerts ensure you’re quickly notified of any danger.LED lights provide a clear visual indicator during an emergency.Cons:The 10-year non-replaceable battery, while convenient, means the entire unit will need replacement after its lifespan, which may not suit everyone. After installation, be sure to test the detector to confirm it’s operating correctly. I highly recommend this product for both home and RV owners looking to enhance their safety with a dependable and user-friendly device.
