I got this for my son. Recently he joined the Trail Life group in our neighborhood and they go on camping trips all the time. He is also 12 years old and I thought this was the perfect time to get him something that had a touching message and he could use for years to come. It was also requested in hopes that this might be something that he could pass down to his children when the time comes. This really is a great compass. I didn't expect it to be as heavy as it is. This is a really well made product. Sturdy and good to take on the rugged world of camping. The message got my son to tear up a bit. I just really wanted him to have something that was from his dad and would hopefully keep us close over the next few years before he leaves the house to make more memories.

This really impressed me, it has the look and feel of a genuine heirloom piece. The build seems to be quality, the Compass does function based on my limited exposure with it, and the inscription is really the icing on the cake. Definitely worth the order. Extremely gift able for a wide range of ages.

There's a gold hardware latch on the box to keep it closed securely.The gold compass itself is amazing. It looks like a very expensive piece, truly. For the price, it is a pleasant surprise. The engraved message on the compass looks flawless. It is a heartfelt message. It says exactly what I want to say to my son and for him to remember. There is also a small card included that matches the theme of the gift that you can write your own personal message in.I love that the "north" on this compass is labeled as "God". That's a nice touch. I'm just amazed at the quality of this piece. It's clean and very shiny. It's a gift to give your son that he should keep for a lifetime. Sonething he will always have from you even after you're gone. Or if he moves away from home or whatever. I know I would love it if my parents gifted me something like this. It's so special.

This is a great gift compass. It comes in a beautiful display box. The verse is engraved both in the box and on the back of the compass. A word of caution as the compass is more of a display type and not something to take out hiking or camping. It is not nearly tough enough for that. It is nice looking. The crystal was no attached and allowed the spindle to fall out when it fell out, so we had to improvise with some glue. Other than that and some tarnish on the brass it looks nice and would make a nice gift.pros:looks nicegift boxengraved verse on backengraved verse inside gift boxconscrystal doesn't seem to be well set, so it falls off so does the spindlesome tarnish on the brass.

I got this for my son, which was a good idea because it says "To my Son" :)I like the message and the thought of a compass directing you back home to your family who loves you.The compass is a "gift" level quality and not for an avid hiker or survivalist, but more for a night stand or shelf as a display. The box it comes in is nice and a great touch, adding a bit of elegance.The price seems about right to me. It's a nice gift and message for your son to let him know he is loved - always and forever.
