I like it, works well. Its heavy construction is probably not desirable to backpacking but you won't worry about it breaking.

Heavy device. First test seem to be ok.Deviation at my location is 19 degrees East.That lines up with 3 different GPS units perfectly. Still have to test it on the field. Inclination measure is fine, just have to hold it correctly. Overall a good back up to have.

This feels like a piece of trail equipment that is solid enough to survive the disaster and take more. Since using it around my home and trails all points have aligned to where they should be. I would consider the degree ring more "high res" for night use. I've used mine in conjunction with my telescope. A great investment for land nav!

Okay, as a bunch of other reviewers have already noted, this thing is really heavy. Not a good thing for backpacking even if you are not counting ounces. However, this thing is built like a tank. It is also loaded with a lot of useful features. My favorite feature is the peep hole to take your readings at eye level.To say there are better options out there is an understatement. BUT, this thing is great for training especially if you have a bunch of scouts or JROTC's you need to teach navigation skills. You can't beat the price or the ruggedness.
