I had overheating of the 3.0L engine on the lake last Summer. The OEM Mercruiser Thermostat was 12 years old. I had some plants blocking the water inlet on the lower, which caused overheating up to 215F, then the alarm came on. When I got home, I replaced the thermostat as well, since it looked to be an easy process, and it was not bad at all. I should be good now for cooling for many more years.
