I bought the 1/2in bit to make box joints. It worked very well. I also used it for half-lapping cabinet door frames. I got most of the way through my project before the bit dulled to the point where it no longer cut the wood. But, it's a cheap bit, so you expect that to happen. It worked for hundreds, if not thousands of passes through the wood. I don't hold it against the bit. In fact, I'm buying another in order to finish this project. Now, my project was softwood. So, if you're doing hardwood, keep in mind that a heartier bit may be necessary.

Used this bit to vertically form tenons for a small table. It did a superb job as compared to my old two-cutter straight bits. The shoulders were glassy-smooth and instead of creating dust it made nice curly shavings. Highly recommended.

I used this a few hundreds of 1-inch deep mortises when so far when building my kitchen - see photos for examples.Using an upcut spiral bit made this go waaay smoother than with other bits I had. It's a stable, solid and very sharp bit - seems to hold the edge well so far. I'm happy with the quality and feel like it was worth the price.

Used these to cut mortises for table legs and aprons in red oak and maple. Excellent mortise hole finish with no burning. These are not the cheapest you can find but they perform well. Will definitely buy other bits from SpeTool when the need arises.

So far it seems very nice. Sharp and twice as large compared to the 1/4" upcut bit I was using for box joints. 1/4" is just too small for box joints and requires too much work getting the glue ready for the joint so I'm using the 1/2" size now.

This isn't a high quality bit but it's priced in line with the quality. I'm on my second one because I broke the last one in some hardwood cutting by hand with my Porter Cable router. I didn't bother looking at the grain size under microscope but it looked pretty uniform so I blame me for the break.

This bit is very DANGEROUS. It broke off at the collet the first time I used it. I was very lucky I wasn't injured.DO NOT BUY THIS BIT. Get a quality bit from a recognized supplier (e.g. Freud etc.)

Last night I came up from my workshop thinking I should really write a good review of the SpeTool bits as I enjoyed using them so much. I've bought numerous ones, including several 1/4" and the 1/2" spiral bits. They sliced through very hard African wood like butter leaving the surfaces smooth. They have been a pleasure to use both on the trim router and on my table router. I highly recommend them - great value for money.

I build beehives and I make a lot of box joints using my router. The bit that I was using was ok, but it was causing a lot of blow out so I started looking on YouTube to see what other options were out there. After coming across a spiral bit demo I thought I would give it a try... yeah, I was a spiral bit virgin. The bit arrived and I slipped it in the open shank of my router, wrenched it down, wiped the sweat off my brow, and flipped the on the switch. The motor fired up, the bit started screaming and I thrust it into the soft pine wood. What happened next left me covered in wood chips and in desperate need of a cigarette. The bit chewed through the wood like a hot knife through butter and I found myself weak at the knees looking for more wood to cut box joints in. What an experience!

I’ve been using the (import tool store in every big city) brand upcut spiral bits ($15 for 3 sizes) for a while. I use them primarily for plunging and cutting in mortises. I decided to try an upgrade and purchased one of these.Unfortunately, my experience was less than ideal when using this bit to plunge a mortise. I continually got kickback from my router. It’s obvious that these bits are VERY sharp. However, the shape of the end of this end mill is simply a bad idea to use for repeated plunging in mortises while using it in a router. When trying to run this bit along the edge of a board, it continually ‘grabs’ the workpiece. So, although I am a fan of SpeTool bits, this one may be best left for the CNC guys. Trying to use this bit in a handheld router is just a recipe for a messed up workpiece, or worse. To be clear, I purchased the 1/2” upcut spiral end mill and I was using it in one of my larger handheld plunge routers. SpeTool still produces excellent tooling, but look elsewhere in their offerings if you’re looking to use this in a handheld plunge router.

I purchased this when the 1/2" bit in my very expensive Freud 5 Piece Up Spiral Bit Set (90-150) snapped on first use. It's been working great even when working extensively in dense red oak. Highly recommend over Freud product.
