Decent quality / good price in what is an expensive catagory of precision tools.I do not intend to use in a machine shop level of Tolenance so its adequate for my purpose.

This unit seems accurate enough for most work. The finish leaves something to be desired. The ground surfaces in the slides are so rough that I wonder if it is damaging the locking screw mating surface when installed and removed. It works great when a simple 2-piece protractor isn't accurate or versatile enough, but I don't think it would really make the grade for anything requiring accurate measurement to the minutes scale.

I took a chance ordering this because of some less-than-stellar reviews on it. However, the unit I received IS a stellar performerin my tool box. Accuracy is within about two arc minutes. I would like to see Fowler improve the magnifier as it is a bit tough to readas it is on the small side. All in all, I am more than pleased with it.

I had the choice of purchasing either this bevel protractor or the one made by Mitutoyo. What a regret... this bevel protractor is not a high quality measurement device as I would expect from Fowler. Firstly, the plastic case.. the identical case that Harbor Freight uses with their products. The case is cheap and doesn't even latch closed. Also, there isn't enough foam inside to hold anything in place.. so when you go to open the case the pieces are all misplaced. The fact that there isn't a clear "front" on the case doesn't help. I had to rig my case with additional foam and wrap the case with a rubber-band... how annoying is that.Next, the bevel protractor is clearly not a first class product. I would have assumed that I had received a used one as the pieces were scratched and not cleaned. The spinning mechanics of the bevel protractor are rough and do not operator smoothly. The groove in the attachments were not machined well and are again rough when inserting them. I question the accuracy of this piece. The "manual" is a photocopied piece of paper.. which doesn't go into details of the acute angle attachment. Therefore, I sent an email to two of their engineers to ask about the function of the acute angle attachment. It has been 9 weeks and I haven't received a response.I would rather pay $250 for a Mitutoyo bevel protractor... can I get a refund??

The one I recieved was off by over 30 arcminutes. Thats over half a degree which is way out of tolerence for this type of precision measuring instrument. The fit of moving parts is rough and the finish is subpar. This is the second, and last time Fowler will let me down. You get what you pay for in this case. But, YMMV, the little kid that glues the scale on yours might do a better job than mine.
