These are thick pads, not the flimsy variety squeezed into vacuum sealed packs... It works great.

You don’t need to buy machine-cut sponge filters, but they do fit the factory filter perfectly. You can definitely cut them to size and make a hole for the tube with no problem. Sometimes, though, it’s worth avoiding the hassle for peace of mind and to make life a little easier and worry-free.
