I’m building up a gravel bike that has a Ritchey headset. So I ordered a Ritchey expander for the fork. What a mistake. The Ritchey expander looks nice, but it flat out doesn’t work. My Plan B was to order one of these. It has a slightly cheesy looking top cap (has some vaguely incomprehensible name on it), but seems to work very nicely. I ought to be able to swap out a plain cap onto it, or even use the Ritchey cap just so that @#$&@/! Ritchey expander won’t be a complete waste of money. Anyway, it’ll do the job for not much money.Seems like a lot of forks these days are carbon. Why don’t they just sell headsets with an expander instead of a star nut?

This was advertised to fit a 25.4 mm and 28.6 mm steerer tube? The wording is confusing.I purchased this for a 1" steerer tube. The inner diameter of my 1" fork is 0.82" but the diameter of the expander piece right before where it is supposed to sit inside the fork is 0.86". So it is not able to go down flush with the fork. Will probably work fine for a 1-1/8" steerer tube?
