I really would have loved to buy this headset in black but I was sent a purple one in a black labelled box 3 times! Such a waste of time.

If you know what Chris King headset are, what they cost and are broke like me, this is what you get! This is a very nice high quality headset for not a ton of money. Love em!

Bought this twice from Bodaway and had to return it twice. I ordered the black anodized color and both times I got the purple anodized in a box labeled black. See the photo for reference. If you're looking for the black anodized version I would suggest buying from a different seller as I eventually did.Other than that it is a quality item and will look great on my bike build.

Good quality, very smooth bearings. The external races pressed into the head tube easily. This was the least expensive headset I could find with a split crown race. I didn't use the included star nut, Instead, I used a Neco Headset Expander extra large. That made for a very easy install, but the expander has it's own issues when used with an aluminum steerer tube. I'll review that item eventually.

This new headset looks so sharp on my bike. My previous headset had warn early due to improper installation.I made a tool out of black steel pipe to remove the old headset races. To do this, buy a piece of 3/4 in steel pipe at least 12 in long. Cut 4 slits with a hacksaw(your arm will be tired) or a bandsaw. Using a chisel pry out the fins to about 1 1/2 wide. It'll work as a cheap replacement to this part.To install the new races, use a 1/2in threaded rod about 12in long. Using 2 nuts and washer that are 1in round you can tighten in the new races. Sheltdon Brown's website has some more great articles about replacing any bike parts. Hopefully this helps. The races have held up well for about a month & even biking in heavy rain haven't seem to bother them a bit.

I do not have much experience with other headsets. I purchased this one as an inexpensive replacement for a worn out WTB Momentum. This Origin 8 model seems to be quite solid and smooth. I appreciate the cartridge bearings over what I had before. The unit has a snug fit but was not overly difficult to install. I used a rubber mallet and had no problems. I am pleased that this comes in a variety of colors. A new headset at a great price makes a significant difference over the worn out old one. No complaints at all.
