I recently revived my CNC router hobby with the purchase of a bit larger machine and fitted it with a 2.2kw spindle that can handle up to 1/2" diameter shanks. With this new capacity, I’m trying various 3/8" and 1/2" end mills and also with different shapes other than spiral upcut, but trying to do so without breaking the bank. I’ve previously purchased and have been impressed by other SpeTool end mills in smaller sizes. This down cut end mill is working great, hogging out a bunch of hardwood quickly while leaving pristine top edges rather than some tearout or at least stringing like an upcut typically does. I’ve not used it enough nor have adequate experience with this size and style to determine if the coating is making a difference, but it does seem to be staying a bit cleaner than uncoated bits. The price on this is great, at time of this review it’s $36 before a coupon.I measured the diameter of this end mill and found it to be about 2 thousands under size. Undersized bits have been the norm in my experience and is actually better tolerance than many others I’ve purchased in the past. The lesson here is to always accurately measure your end mills if they are going to be used for precision work where a few thousands of an inch matter.I will continue to use SpeTool bits at the very least to try new sizes and cutting geometries and probably some production use as I start turning the hobby into a side hustle.

Using this to mill out wooden pine trays for a wargame on my CNC. It cuts clean for basic milling and not being used for any drilling cuts. You would need a upcut bit for any drilling vs just cutting due to the chips going downward. Great milling bit so far, will update if any issues come up.
