About this item

  • REPLACEMENT PCV BREATHER HOSE 5pc KIT - This crankcase vent valve breather hose kit includes the Crankcase Pressure Regulator Valve and 4 Breather Hoses. The crank case valve and hoses commonly crack overtime and lead to a check engine light (CEL), poor fuel economy, and sometimes smoking. This kit includes all 5 PCV components that commonly fail.
  • FITS THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES - This PCV Hose Kit is a direct replacement for the factory vent hoses and PCV valve valve on a variety of BMW vehicles. This includes most 3 series and 5 series models from 1997- 2005. SEE BELOW FOR FULL LIST.
  • REPLACES PART # - 11617501566, 11617504535, 11617504536, 11611432559, 11157532649 - This includes the Crankcase Pressure Regulator Valve, Upper Oil Separator Vent Tube, Crankcase Vent Return Pipe, Crankcase Ventilation Hose (Oil separator to valve cover), Crankcase Ventilation Hose (Oil separator to dipstick tube)
  • OEM, FIT, QUALITY, FINISH - This PCV Hose Kit is constructed of a high temperature plastic that will last longer compared to the factory hoses. While this is NOT a genuine BMW part, this air intake hose is modeled after the factory BMW hoses for an exact fit on your BMW.

The BMW M54 and M52TU engines are well-known for requiring maintenance on their Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) and Crankcase Ventilation Control (CCV) systems. These systems, while critical for engine health, are not the most user-friendly to service. This article provides insight into the challenges and potential pitfalls during their repair, as well as the symptoms of a failing CCV system and tips for successful replacement.

Signs of a Failing CCV System:

Hissing noise beneath the intake manifold.

Random cylinder misfires, indicated by a P0300 error code.

White exhaust smoke.

Excessive oil consumption.

Reduced power at low RPMs.

In the M54 and M52TU engines, the PCV system comprises four hoses and a pressure-regulating valve. The hoses, especially the lower rubber oil return hose, are prone to deterioration. The valve's diaphragm is another common failure point, often disintegrating over time. In colder climates, the system is susceptible to freezing if the engine doesn't reach the proper operating temperature, leading to potential cracking of hoses and the valve due to frozen condensation.

Installation Tips:

Component Removal: You'll need to remove the air box, intake boots, throttle body, and DISA valve using basic hand tools. Accessibility varies by model; for instance, the repair is generally easier on a 5-series than on a 3-series due to the larger engine bay.

Valve Replacement: Removing the old PCV valve often involves breaking the brittle hoses rather than attempting to disconnect them.

Sensor and Component Disconnection: Numerous sensors and components near the intake manifold must be disconnected. Labeling connectors is recommended to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Oil Sump and Dipstick Maintenance: Removing and cleaning the oil sump dipstick is advised, as the PCV system's return drain can become clogged. In severe cases, replacing the dipstick guide tube might be necessary.

The overarching advice for this installation is to allocate ample time, possibly an entire weekend, especially if you're not well-versed in disassembling these components. Patience and careful attention to detail are key to a successful repair.

I had two issues with this kit. The detail page says exact fit for a 2005 X3. I am not sure if the 2.5 and the 3.0 have different size parts and it works for the 2.5. But it definitely doesn’t fit the 2005 x3 3.0L. Before I did the installation I checked all the new parts. I clicked them into their connectors and gave them a tug to verify they locked into place. The L shaped vent hose that connects to the top of the oil separator did not lock. This is the only hose that requires you to push it into place, then rotate it 90 degrees to lock it into the oil separator. My issue was the hose would spin freely over the oil separator never locking itself into place. It would stop, but the slightest pressure would cause the hose to pop over the lip on the separator.I requested an exchange which arrived the next day. The second kit has the same issue as the first one. So I went ahead and forked up $35 for the OEM hose. Which you can see on the left in the attached image. Clearly it is a totally different shape than the hose from the kit on the right.Tried to save a few $ on this cheap fix since the car is old. Ultimately I ended up getting the full OEM kit and returning both of the kits from Amazon.

Tough job, recommend a garage and about 8-10 hours for time. Get replacement vacuum lines if you’re doing this, as the old stuff is very brittle and for a couple bucks saves a lot of headache. Do a lot of research before attempting the job. Compared to original product the price matches the quality. Very good if on a budget.

I have a 2006 BMW X3 and this fits but it’s a bear to install. front start to finish it’s about 4 hours worth of work. The product is fine, it’s the engineers at BMW that make it so hard buried deep under the intake manifold. Everything on the manifold must come off to get it in there but if your are having a lean mixture code all the DISA o rings, the dip stick o rings, the idle valve o ring, and about 7 feet of 1/8 vacuum hose are needed to fix along with a very careful inspection of the intake hose for cracks and replace this crankcase ventilation system too. These are way less then the original BMW parts and work fine.
