Installed a new outdoor lamp post and didn't want to rewire to the house. Used this to splice to the original Al wire and it worked great.

If you are already familiar with basic wiring, this is a pretty easy way to fix a cut wire or splice wires somewhere where the connection must be 100% watertight, and the wire is carrying a fair bit of power.I looked at the huge, thick heat shrink tubing and worried it wouldn't contract enough too, but with a heat gun on high it did eventually shrink down fine for a 12/2 wire, with a bit of sealant running out of the ends, just as it is supposed to. That gives you a lot of confidence in the quality of the seal and that it will stay water tight. But I definitely needed the heat gun on high, and pretty close to it to get it to shrink, close enough that I was worried about catching the whole thing on fire. Get the whole thing a bit warm on all sides, then hold the gun in one spot in the middle and that will get it started. After everything cooled down, I did cover the ends with liquid electrical tape just to provide some extra protection, then coated the outside of the entire thing with UV resistant caulk because my application means the splice will be exposed to sunlight and I'm somewhat skeptical that the heat shrink tubing will survive continuous, direct UV exposure. It's designed for direct burial where it will never see the sun again, so be careful of UV exposure if you aren't burying it.You could get a bunch of butt splices or solder and some heat shrink tubing and achieve essentially the same thing, but this is both much quicker and feels just a bit more safe/secure. The brass terminals are not going to have trouble carrying the rated amps continuously, the thing is UL listed, etc.If you need it, I would buy it and not worry about the other reviewers who couldn't get the heat shrink tube to shrink, assuming you have access to a heat gun. If you are planning to use a hair dryer or a propane torch because you don't have a heat gun - then yeah I can see you maybe having issues, because the tubing does need to get quite hot to shrink properly.

This product worked great. It’s very easy to use. The instructions are are to understand and has a wire length graphic on the bottom for easy stripping gauge. I will say from some reviews I’ve read about the heat shrink tubing not be good, it requires a lot of heat from a heat gun on high constantly moving until glue ooze’s out.Great product.

There is nothing to dislike. They are the answer for burying an electrical connection underground. We have used them for TEK cable and we have used them for the flat, grey direct-burial cable. Easy to install the wires and tighten them and we used a heat gun to melt/shrink the heat shrink. Do like the instructions say: start in the middle and shrink it as you move out towards the ends. The water-proof glue/goo inside melts and seals it all up perfectly.

Disregard any reviews that say it's too hard to use the heat shrink tubing. It works properly if you use the correct tool... A HEAT GUN. Do not use a blowtorch or a hair dryer or a bic lighter or a toaster or a microwave or whatever else these jabronis are trying to use. Use a heat gun and it works perfectly. These splices are a godsend. Do not hesitate to buy.

Maybe I'm the only one, but with a propane torch, I still couldn't get the ends to shrink around 12 gauge Romex. In fact I was worried I was going to melt the Romex, as the outer ring actually caught on fire, In the end, I used liquid electrical tape to seal the ends. This product is still a much better solution than attempting wire nut connectors for use underground.

Great, easy to use product to repair a damaged cable in my front yard. Make sure you take your time with the heat gun to help set the glue, and be sure you have enough exposed cable to set the sleeve (it's pretty inflexible so if you don't have enough length of cable before a box, etc. it may not work for you.). For the run of the mill repairs though, it's great. Would buy again.
