The tanuki has been a part of Japanese folklore since ancient times and is said to be a mischievous character, able to disguise or transform himself at will. Famous legends tell the tale of a tanuki shape shifting into a monk, or an inanimate object like a tea kettle, to play tricks on passing woodsmen or hunters. Tanuki are said to love sake, so caricatures often depict the tanuki holding a flask of sake in one hand and a promissory note in the other.

These are cute and an excellent match for a mug that my husband already owned. He was surprised and please by this gift at Christmas. Definitely recommend!

Purchased these as a gift and they are absolutely perfect! I wish there had been a little more packaging for the bottle, but it arrived unharmed nonetheless. Very pleased with the overall quality!

This sake set is very well-made and incredibly adorable. The ceramic is high quality, and looks even better in person than in the photos. The little tails of the badgers are just icing on the cuteness cake. Can't wait to use them!

I can't imagine anyone who likes sake that wouldn't love this set! It is a little smaller than I imagined, but truly perfect for sake. It's one of those gifts you can have on hand just in case you need a gift on the fly. They are durable and well made. I got it as a gift for my sister and she absolutely loved them. Honestly, it was hard not to keep them for myself!

Great gift for brother in law, had such a quirky quality, and then when I saw it in person I was really impressed with the great craftsmanship.
