It would have been nice if the order had included a pin to use to lock the latch. Pins that are plated to match the latch are difficult to find.

Build quality is good. I used different screws. I need3d machine screws for my install. I would recommend this latch.

I like these latches due to their quality. The casting appears flawless as does the highly polished surface finish. They function well to provide a clamping action. There are also designed to take a padlock if that is desired although that is easily defeated by removing some of the attaching screws. I recommend these.

Regular hardware in a marine environment corrodes very quickly. That's why stainless steel is used. And not just any stainless steel, but 300-series stainless steel. And, most often, not just any from the 300-series of stainless steels, but specifically Type 316 Stainless Steel (which is also used in jet engine parts, pharmaceutical and photographic equipment, valve and pump parts, chemical processing equipment, tanks, and other corrosive environments).This latch is described as "Solid Construction, Lockable, 316 Stainless Steel with Screws". But it's not.Type 316 Stainless Steel would not be attracted by my magnet. But my magnet flies to this latch. The magnetic attraction is so strong that my magnet doesn't fall off even when I try to shake it off with a whipping motion. So this is not made of Type 316 Stainless Steel. It is not even made of anything in the 300-series of stainless steels. This latch will corrode, and it's better to not even start with it. Sorry I got it.Some screws for mounting are included. These completely ignore my magnet. They are good. So if you want to overpay for a small pack of 300-series stainless steel screws, this is the product to get. Otherwise, no.One last note: you are reading a Vine review, which means this product was sent to me without my having to pay for it. I never believed Vine reviews, I felt people would say anything to get free stuff. The Vine program, at least for me, is a little different: I only get what I go out of my way to ask for, and everything I get is reported as income to me, so I'll have to pay income taxes at what will probably be reported as list price. I may actually lose on the deal. But I wanted this latch and its corrosion-free properties, this is something I was really looking forward to use, I didn't know I could get it through Amazon before I saw it available for review, and, hopefully, my experience has been a help to you.

Higher Quality - Thick Casting – Highly Polished – over Center type clamping latch- I am reviewing the cast Stainless Steel over center clamp latches. I have been wanting a high quality box latch for a long time. These are high enough quality that I can now finally make that box out of that 100+ year old oak barn wood I have been saving for decades. Now I have to find matching hinges that are as high a quality as these latches. - The included screws are not up to the higher quality of the latches. The screws are Phillips Flat head and they are too small for the countersink holes and drop down too deep. Of course, you must carefully choose the fastener screw type and size for your particular application. I will be using straight slotted oval head screws. The countersunk screw head holes are not quite perfectly uniform depth but close enough that only a very particular carpenter will notice. - This type of latch can be face mounted without inlaying. It is really important to understand the “over center” clamping mechanism functions so that you position these hinges so that the clamp will actually work. - These hinges, and screws, are indeed made out of some kind of Stainless Steel alloy. The website photographs do not adequately show the high polish of these hinges. There are no casting flaws so the manufacturer has Quality Control.

These stainless steel (316) latches are sturdy and look to be very well made. I haven't yet installed them but when I to get to the boat I'll put them to good use. I would not hesitate to buy these again.
