This is a high quality k-type thermocouple with stainless steel pointed insertion probe, which is good up to about 500 degree C Celsius or about 932 degree F Fahrenheit continuous use, and short term up to 800 C or 1472 F. The diameter is 0.118 inch or 3.0 mm. The stainless steel probe is 5 inch (12.5cm) long and has a spring loaded strain relieve. It comes with a high quality miniature thermocouple connector which has blades made from compensating metal chromel / alumel. The thermocouple plug has a brass strain relieve. The wire has a fiber glass inner insulation and stainless steel outer braid.. This k-type thermocouple probe can be used for a wide range of applications and is protected from most corrosive substances. This k-type thermocouple can be mounted in ovens, kilns or furnaces. It is also used to monitor machines and liquids in industrial processes. In metal working it can be used to measure some melted metals, for example lead in bullet casting and some melted aluminum. With the pointed tip we have many customers who use this probe for cooking in their smoker, barbecue, oven or grill. The stainless steel probe, handle and cable can be easily cleaned and it is very durable.

I ended up returning all 3 of these. The wire shielding going into the plug frayed, exposing wire.

The best! Great for tempering chocolate, grilling anything that need precise temperature readings!

Very nice and accurate thermocouple for the price- only thing of note is the thermocouple to wire adapter is chrome-plated brass so it may not tolerate acids, but works great for other items e.g. food temperature, soil temperature, etc..

It works great and can stay inserted in the meat while in the oven. Be careful and don't kink the wire. The braided wire is good quality

Hooked it into my multimeter and used it as a backup meat probe in the oven. No problems.
