About this item

  • WHAT IS KOJOI?: The word ‘Kojoi’ comes from the Guarani language and literally means ‘roasted yerba mate’. Kojoi has a distinct flavor profile that is somewhere between a full-bodied black tea and a citrusy coffee roast, with notes of toasted toffee, warm cacao, and subtle citrus
  • DELICATELY ROASTED: The leaves of the yerba mate plant are hand picked, gently air-dried, and aged 18-24 months to balance the flavor profile and draw out the best possible taste. Our proprietary roasting process unlocks a robust, full-bodied flavor that is deeper and more complex than our unroasted yerba mate, Ka’a
  • ENERGY FOR YOUR MIND Air-dried and roasted with care, Kojoi delivers smooth, sustained energy—about 75mg of caffeine per 8oz, comparable to drip coffee without the jitters.
  • CERTIFIED USDA ORGANIC: Sustainably sourced from Paraguay, our yerba mate loose-leaf tea is certified organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, directly traded, and 100% vegan
  • SAME TOOLS, NEW BREW: Brew Kojoi loose-leaf tea using the same methods as coffee, whether in a pot, French press, or pour over. This age-old tradition seamlessly integrates into your morning routine

I've had yerba mate a few times in the past, but I decided to follow the instructions and brew this roasted version like coffee in my moka pot. It smelled like Lipton iced tea but had a strong, dark color. The initial taste was similar to the smell with more roasted bitterness, with a surprising clove note and I love clove. It gave me a similar caffeine boost to coffee without any jitters. The packaging is nice and keeps the tea fresh. This is an interesting alternative to coffee, especially if you like strong, bold flavors.

This product cannot be brewed/made as a tea. The package says to make a perfect cup you need a French press, coffee maker or expresso machine. I didn't' have one - didn't know I needed one - so I tried my best/finest mesh tea strainer. Didn't work! The result of whatever processing takes place with the leaves produces a texture so fine it results in a disagreeably strong flavor instantly plus a significant quantity of pure sludge at the bottom of the cup. Not something I wanted to drink. I used only two level teaspoons (the package says 2 T) and then tried adding more hot water. It was like black coffee and tasted just as strong. Not my cup of tea. I won't be ordering again and have thrown out the package. KLH

Have been adding it into my coffee for a few days now, 1/2 and 1/2. Can't taste it and so far can't tell if it makes a difference.

I am new to the yerba mate club, switched from coffee after reading about the benefits. Just randomly chose the brand Katu because of their description. When I ran out I ordered a different brand,... It was horrible! Tried another, not much better. Had to reorder the Katu to get that same satisfaction I got when I first started drinking yerba mate. The flavor is so rich, the others don't compare. I'm in love, hope they don't stop producing it! ❤️

I will only be buying from this brand. Finally a good roasted mate. I've tried others but this one takes the cake, It's smooth with amazing, deep flavor. Whoever came up with the packaging on this deserves a raise. Every other mate, roasted or green, has terrible, cheap packaging. These guys made theirs beautiful, durable, and practical with a resealable zip lock. Just holding it in your hands screams quality that no other mate provider has bothered to create. WELL DONE. I hope you release more mates. For anyone reading, a pro tip I've found is that I get the best flavor with the least bitterness when brewing at 160 degrees F.

I am pleased as punch I tried this. Excellent addition morning routine of coffee or chai or cocoa. Love the aroma and the gentle caffeine smoothness/ delivery. Not caffeine jitters, just a pleasant energy. I tried it both hot & cold with a small amount of raw honey a dash of Redmond’s Real salt & cream. I brewed mine traditionally- I will try the drip style as this method allows for water temperature control - great quality and freshness you can smell once you open the package.

The description is right on; It's nutty, smoky and a bit chocolate. I still love my coffee but this is a great option for a change of pace. I also brew beer and I plan to brew with this. Should be interesting as I do like a good coffee stout!
