We use these now for our 18 volt makita conversions. The 12 volt units have a 16 volt cap on output that will eventually pop. Just use this and adjust speed via remote. One and done.

The controller will not link up at first to the motherboard, but finally got it to link once the car gas pedal was pushed once.
