I got it to break up the terrible hard clay soil we have in AZ to mix mulch and nutrients around a tree. It's perfect because it doesn't go so deep it's difficult to twist along with a little ledge for your foot to sink it down, then twist to till the soil. No getting on the ground either is a big plus. It has a coating that is thick and keeps you took from becoming rusty. Like the size too, I'm 5 ft and it was just right

Sturdy, well made and great for smaller areas - for those larger lawns, may need to get something more automated.

This little tool is sturdy and really does a great job. I'm short and so I found it stable and easy to use. It's not a very tall device so it might be difficult for a tall person to use. Especially with big boots on. Pleased with this purchase.

I know most of these tools seem like a TV commercial but this one really works. With the terrible drought we have had this summer in Frisco, Texas, parts of my yard were turning brown because my sprinkler system kinda missed some areas. Also, these areas were on a slope, so water was running off, not soaking down. With this tool, I quickly aerated these areas and withing a week they started to green back up. Now, if I can just get my neighbor to give it back!!!

The spikes are not 3 inches as advertised, they are 2 and a half. The welds are pretty bad, covered over with the finish. Three spikes were straight in line and the fourth points of in a random direction. Not a high quality tool.

The area I aerate is only about 400 square feet so it is not too time consuming to use this tool though it is incredibly monotonous. I used it when the soil was damp from rain and had no issues with the spikes not penetrating. As one might guess, the soil needs to be "just right" for the tool to work with reasonable ease and efficacy. My soil was heavily compacted clay and I am trying to improve a grassy area.
