I was disappointed to see such a small shank on this bit. I guess I assumed the reduced shank would be 1/2" as quality bits always are. The bit I received has a 10 mm shank welded to the cobalt alloy drill. It bent the first time the bit stalled in the bore. I managed to enlarge 12 holes in carbon steel so was able to finish the project, but the bit is junk now. Was expecting to be able to keep the bit for future projects but It's disposable.

Did the job, exact size I needed. Was drilling holes for 1/2” pvc. Wanted the fit snug and tight. Perfect fit.

Purchased a 43/64" drill bit. The shank size was 10mm, that was disappointing. Standard shank diameter for these drills is 1/2". I was able to grind down the back end of the drill to 1/2" diameter and use it for the job I had to do. The drilling end of the tool worked as expected with no problem drilling thru 303 stainless parts 1.560" deep. If the shank was 1/2" diameter it would get 5 stars. The description of the tool should mention the shank diameter to avoid this problem. I noticed on the description photos that in one photo you can see there is varying diameter shanks.

Anyone purchasing this drill bit should know, the amount of true HSS with cobalt is only about 1-1/2's of the the drill. If a person looks very closely you can see the weld between the shank and the HSS. That said, the drill bit will perform very well as long as you clear chips and use proper lubrication in drilling the hole. Don't expect to sharpen this drill a large number of times.
