For such a small filter it works great. I have it on a 6 gallon beta tank just once every 7-10 days remove 3 media sponges and rinse out. Takes less than 10 minutes. Provides good circulation in tank.

The air driven version of this filter is really impressive IMO. Really well designed and the materials are higher quality than you might expect. I connect them to Fluval breeding boxes, and the pipe sizes match up perfectly. The fine bubbles make an otherwise noisy breeder box run quietly, which is a total bonus!

Welcome to my life as an aquarium hobbyist and my ongoing efforts to improve living conditions in my 11G shelf aquarium.I started this aquarium this past March and have since been working diligently to improve water circulation and filtration, as I discovered my hang-on back filter had not been efficiently circulating water on the far left and right of the outflow. This also created surface film.I recently added a small nanotank filter with skimmer, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D95XSL9X. This replaced the skimmer. I wanted still further circulation improvement, so essentially, keep the Marina filter in the middle, the nanotank filter on the left, and this unit on the right. After much frustration, including trying to find online help, I managed to install this unit. The instructions leave a lot to be desired and a how-to video really needs to be included with the product description! It's still unclear whether it's OK to have the pump underwater! I am using the arm extension for surface water agitation and the water pump is above the water's surface. I managed to find a picture of the unit in underwater wave mode, and the water pump was pictured under water. I am watching it carefully to make it's working correctly. It also took some doing to figure out exactly how all the pieces, parts, filter sponges work, and that includes adding filter medium. It's not intuitive at all. Major frustration point. The arm that provides water flow above water for surface agitation is very loud if installed per the picture, so I modified it slightly so the arm is closer to the surface. This does reduce the surface water movement. Yet another area of concern. And finally, the complete profile of this unit is an issue as it needs to be installed in the water. This then takes up space in the tank, displaces water volume, and that is a concern when tracking fish bioload. If one were to use this in a ~3-4G nanotank, it would significantly reduce total tank water volume.I have since ordered another of the little nanotank units, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D95XSL9X, and will replace this unit upon receipt of the nanotank unit. This unit will join the treasure trove of aquarium components and all manner of chemicals I have tried to date that have fallen short of my requirements and expectations in trying to find the best and simplest possible solutions for maintaining a healthy environment for my fish.I give this unit 4 stars out of benefit of doubt. It appears to be built from quality materials. However, setup and proper use are not clear from the instructions and I was not able to find any product support.

This pump doesn’t even clip together properly. So when you want to make a small adjustment of the position, the whole thing falls apart in the tank, so you have to fish out all the parts and put it back together. I’ve seen $10 setups that work better

I like the shape of this sponge filter and it is built to avoid sucking in your long finned or slow swimming critters. The ceramic ball are a nice additional option as well. The only thing that is a bit of a drawback is the waterfall attachment. It is a bit too strong for my bettas on the surface - I need to turn it off before feeding them. For other fish that are strong swimmers this is not a concern, but this filter is designed for nano tanks and that limits what fish are comfortable in that aquarium size.
