Okay, so I don't use this on a boat. I actually keep in the bed of my pick up truck, and use it to grab items toward the front of the truck bed. Getting in and out of my truck bed is tough on my knees and I wanted something compact I can keep in the bed of hte truck for me to grab items out of reach. This pole is perfect for that. It's meant for the boat, but has uses far beyond the boat.

This boat hook is compact and durable.....perfect for easing up to the dock, reaching for an anchor rope or downrigger weight or pushing away from obstacles. I'll also be using it to balance while walking up my trailer tongue when loading. I like that it collapses to a very manageable size that I can stow on my small fishing boat.

The hook is great and is standard extension pole/broomstick threads. It has a little rubber protector on the push part so you don't scratch your neighbors boat. Its got push and grab parts and will also hold a dock line if you need to reach it from a bit of a distance. The extension pole is the lengths advertised in the title, with the hook its about 21" collapsed and about 40" extended. In the description it says 4.7' to 12', which would make it a little more useful, but it will still be somewhat useful. I'll give it a workout this summer and if its not long enough to be useful I'll put the hook on a longer extension pole.

I needed a good pole to help me dock. Most docks here are covered in oysters and barnacles. This makes easy work of keeping a wee bit of distance between your hands and the dock pilons. Also, if you have a rope that is just a wee bit difficult to capture/unhook, this tool/pole will do the trick nicely. Additionally, it collapses down to just over a foot in length, so if you are trying to conserve on storage, this is a great solution. Heck, everyone needs a pole for safety reasons. Why not this one.

I like the compactness of this telescoping boat hook. It even comes with its own carry bag, which is nice. We already have a large boat hook for the pontoon, so I think this will be perfect to carry on the kayak. Nice, high quality hook.

This pole uses clasps to lock it in place when extended and I like this method. When locked, each section stays in place and are sturdy enough to press onto dock poles and guide your boat without slipping. The length is exactly as described and what I need for a pontoon boat--my primary use is for docking, grabbing onto ropes and maneuvering in tight spaces. The hook is what I expected, hardened plastic with a rubber tip to avoid scratching. Two other observations: 1) The handle has a foam grip but feels a little big to my average sized hands (not that a big deal). 2) The point where the hook screws in looks like metal but is made of plastic and attached with a rivet. Time, of course will tell, but I do have a concern about the strength of that piece.

This is a very nice boat hook and pole. It is really well made. The pole is in three sections that extend with little clips that flip open to unlock. This is way better than extendable piles that you have to twist. When extended they lock securely. The hook is the usual type and the farthest reaching one has a rubber tip over it. It is not that long, but will be very helpful on our 16โ bass boat. When collapsed it is very small and easily stored. It has a small bag for storage that holds the pole, but with the hook attached, it is not quite long enough. However, it cinches closed and has one of those plastic push button things to hold it closed and you press to release the cord and open, so the bag is fine. Happy with this product.
