316 Stainless Steel
- A major difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel is the chemical composition, with 316 containing a significant amount of molybdenum; typically 2 to 3 percent by weight vs only trace amounts found in 304. The higher molybdenum content results in grade 316 possessing increased corrosion resistance. It’s ability to resist acids and chlorides, including salt, makes grade 316 ideal for chemical processing and marine applications.

Unfortunately, I needed to hold down a top where the latch needed to be 90 degrees off (l8,e an “L”). The hook for the latch doesn’t allow this to work. If the hook for the latch came around another 45 degrees it would have worked. The latch is clean and shiny, and the stainless seems to be high quality.

I got these to hold my custom-made cornhole boards together. I built my boards to last, with stainless steel hardware everywhere and 6 coats of Total Boat Gleam varnish. I wanted some latches to match the quality and appearance of the rest of the components and these fit the bill.One thing I noticed: don't trust the dimensional drawings on the Amazon product page. The actual spacing between the top and bottom latch screw holes was off by 1/16". Luckily I caught this before I drilled any holes. Instead, I just lined everything up manually and now they latch perfectly together. It would have been nice if these came with instructions or precise drawings. What matters, though, is that these latches work great and seem very sturdy.
