I don't make furniture with a lot of screw holes that need to be covered up. I'm too stubborn. What I did want these for was to add interesting contrast to areas that didn't need me to actually put in dowels as a joinery tool but I wanted to have contrasting woods. I recently made a walnut and Big Leaf Maple 'secrets box' with small "dowels' made with these to make it look more like a trunk with riveted straps holding it together. It was easy to use and saved me some time.

I was so excited to receive this package because I can't stand going to the hardware store just to buy a wooden dowel. Now I can make my own I thought! But after I closely inspected these I realized they needed a little bit of cleanup work because they had several burrs where they had been sharpened. This is an uncommon with mass produced sharp items such as these, but because of their construction it was a little difficult to get all of the birds taken off. O be aware of that, but otherwise they have worked fantastically for my purposes. Truly do love being able to cut my own dowels to replace defects in wood. These claim to have a tapered cutting effect like the brand name ones, but I'm not 100 percent convinced that is the case. It's very hard to tell, but again these will definitely work for what I need them for. Just don't forget the glue!

Poor manufacturing standards give you the impression that these are pumped out of the factory in bulk with no inspections whatsoever. The case is nicer than the bit themselves are. Good luck however getting a plug the right size considering how many defects exist on the cutting edges.

This set of bits arrives in a nice wooden storage box. Unfortunately, it's downhill from there. The ends of many of the bits, particularly the larger diameter ones, are chewed up, with chipped cutting edges. As a result, plugs cut with these bits are also chewed up and basically unfit for anything approximating fine work. It doesn't look so much like careless machining as it does sloppy handling

I was very disappointed when I opened these up. they are in a very nice wooden box that protects the tools inside well. For this reason, i am certain that this didn't happen in shipping. This would have been in this condition when they were shipped. As you can see from the pictures, the cutting surfaces are terribly chipped up and probably unusable in this condition. I will probably be able to sharpen them and get them working again but I shouldn't have to do that.To help understand how I rate items:My philosophy is, that for a rating system to be effective, the highest rating and the lowest rating should be reserved for a relatively small percentage of the best and the worst products. If I give a product four stars, it is because I believe it is a very good product. To get five stars from me requires a product to go above and beyond and really impress me beyond my expectations. By the same token, a product has to be VERY, VERY bad to get only one star from me. One thing that I DON'T take into consideration with my ratings is price. I may make a general statement such as “this is a good value” but it will not affect my star rating. The reason is that product prices change, even from day-to-day. Also what one person may consider a good price someone else might not. I feel it is more important to review the quality and features of a product and let the buyer decide whether the current price is worth it to them. Another thing that I don't take into consideration are issues with shipping. This is because the seller does not always have control over that. Following is each of the five categories of *stars* and how I assign them to a product:***** Five stars - The product exceeded my expectations. I really love it and would actively suggest it to friends and would certainly purchase it again if needed.**** Four stars - The product met my expectations. It does what it claims to do. I like it and would recommend it to someone if they asked about it. I would Most likely purchase it again if needed .*** Three stars - The product is average and for the most part does what it claims. There may be a few things I don't like about it. If I recommended it to someone, I would state my reservations. I may purchase it again if I could not find a better alternative.** Two stars - The product fell far short of my expectations. It may, in some respects, do what it claims to do but has far too many problems to overlook. I would never recommended it to someone nor would I ever purchase it again. There is a good possibility I would return it.* One star - The product is terrible. It has way too many cons and few if any pros. I would actively warn my friends away from it and would most likely return it if possible.

The ends of the bits are all chewed up and full of burs. I'm very displeased with the quality of the workmanship or rather the lack thereof. They cut horribly. The machining is done very poorly. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this item.
