I'll never admit to trying one of these things, but even a fit person having carried a couple kids might want a little... support under a thin dress. This was surprising comfortable (it's all relative) and nicely smoothing. Athletic hourglass: 28in waist, 40 inch "hips" (actual hip bones maybe 32in).

I got a large, they definitely come extra small. It does do the job but the bottom cuts in my inner thighs and is painful.

I have tried about six different styles/brands of shapewear to find what I liked the best. These won out. I did exchange the large for a medium. My normal clothing size is somewhere between a medium and large/10-12 women's. The boning on the back can be a little uncomfortable as it curves along my back and kind of digs in, but it's not too bad. I think longer boning would help. I have PCOS and carry a lot of weight in my gut, so I often look very pregnant when I'm not. This shapewear slimmed my waist by about 2.5-3 inches, which I was really happy with. They are stretchy around the waist, so relatively comfortable to sit and eat in still.

The tummy control is very good. It is the best shapeware I've used to date. The top does not ride down. the material is soft and easy to pull up and down. It does not bite into your skin. I wore it to a wedding recently and had it on for several hours and I was not uncomfortable.I will stick to this brand going forward.
