This is a waterproof short - fully sealed with taped seams. The design is amazing: padded butt. Sealed zippers in the front that open up to leg vents. Small waterproof pocket in the back (won't fit a cell phone). Good deep zippered pockets on the side. So why am i giving it 3 stars? Because the last thing I expected was a fully waterproof bike short. If I was still sailing, these would be amazing. Troy Lee makes great products, but I wasn't expecting that this was a waterproof short.
