Without getting too deep into how these works there are two sides to the valve that are normally under equal water pressure and the valve is closed. When the unit is activated, water floods one side, and the rubber diaphragm moves aside and water can flow.My old diaphragm had worn out and the ring it seals to was cracked in spots. I swapped these two internal elements and it works like new. Didnt need to disconnect the whole unit just had to unscrew the top. Pretty easy once i had the water turned off

for some reason Amazon didn't like my first, very complimentary review. So here it is again. The shipping was super fast, even though it came direct from seller. I thought I only needed the solenoid, but I replaced the whole top of the valve per several YouTubers videos. Getting the whole valve was not much more expensive than just getting just the solenoid. Glad I got the whole valve because when I replaced it, one of rings in the old valve was cracked. So all in all a great buy.

Used them for 30+ years with pretty much no problem. Used to buy at local irrigation store but they quit selling them. So I switched over to an Orbit for a lot less money and as long as it works for 10 years who cares. Did install some slip adapters for easy removal of the valve next time. Any thing pretty much works you just might have to adapt it to your stuff.

I actually bought this valve for the parts. It cost me less for the entire assembly than it did for the parts I needed to rebuild my old one.

Works great. Bought this to replace one that was installed in 1997. This is a better product than anything else I’ve ever seen.

Update. 2nd one arrived broken just like the 1st. Maybe 3rd time is the charm? Called Amazon & they still don't think it needs to be shipped in an actual box. Too bad I need this exact valve to avoid plumbing or I'd definitely buy a Rain Bird or Hunter. I've never had to try so hard to buy such a bad product. Pros won't go near a Toro.Be prepared to keep sending it back until you get one that isn't broken. It wasn't shipped in a box so the small manual knob on the top snapped off. Seems to be a common issue. Why they don't ship it in an actual box is beyond me.

I specifically looked for this valve because I had the same valve in my sprinkler system for at least 20 years without a failure. Sure enough this valve is of the same quality and best of all, if it ever were to fail, you can replace the valve without replacing the body. NO pipes to cut or digging required! Don't waist your time and money on the crap at Home Depot that fail within a year. I love HD but the Orbit and other vlaves they sell are really really bad.
