About Swagman

"Ride, paddle, explore:
seek your adventure"

That philosophy was the intention of founders Jim and Jan Morris who saw an opportunity to create a better way to transport your bike back in the early 90’s. Swagman was one of the first companies worldwide to design and market a hitch style bike rack. Over the years, that small bike rack company based in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia grew to include numerous other ground breaking designs in the North American Bicycle, RV and Automobile markets.

Swagman deserve an award for the packaging of this merchandise. Every component was individually packaged in very sturdy cardboard. The bike rack works well on the back of our truck, but I have yet to try it on the back of our travel trailer. Hence only 4 stars.

We've been looking for a dependable, durable and RV rated bike rack for a reasonable price .. after reading several reviews and purchasing the swagman ..and taking it all around Minnesota ...I can honestly say I'm impressed but the quality and ease of assembly along with the security locks on the lock bars for the individual bikes .. I doubt I will ever need to buy this again ... But if all swagman products are this well manufactured I will definitely look to their products before buying anything in the we might need for our future bike needs.

We were getting tired of carting our eBikes around in totes in the bed of our truck and started looking for a bike rack that could not only carry our bikes, but also be rated for RV use. The prices are a little eye watering, but the Swagman was relatively low priced and recommended by folks in the RV'ing community. I was immediately impressed when I opened the box at how well it was packed and how everything looked heavy duty. I gave it 5 stars for ease of assembly, but I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. The pictograms in the assembly instructions were pretty easy to follow. I assembled it on the trailer hitch.I can't help but be impressed by how well built and engineered this rack seems to be. I'm certain that they under-rated its carrying capacity. Seriously, if the hitch on the front of the trailer ever goes bad, I'll just swap ends and pull the trailer with the bike rack. Just kidding (sort of).

The rack was very well packed. All the hardware was properly secured. Other than some errors and omissions on the instructions, it was very easy to assemble. The locking pin really locks it in with my travel trailers receiver. And when you replace the snap pin with the supplied RV bolt and nut, it's rock solid. My wife's 60 pound e-bike fits nicely along with my gravel bike. One thing to note. On my kit, there was a reinforcing gusset that I don't see in earlier assemblies. If I had a rack that was not equipped with this, I'd contact Swagman to see if it's necessary to retrofit older racks. The reinforcing gusset kit is p/n 64714 and comes with the needed hardware and supplemental instructions. But that p/n is not listed on the Swagman website. It's always concerning when assembling a product to have left over hardware. In this case, they included two different threaded pins for the receiver/hitch shaft interface. On one of them, you can attach a lock that is keyed the same as the hooks on the rack. The other pin simply screws in place and is held with a clip. It would have been nice if the instructions mentioned this.Overall, it appears to be a robust rack and I hope to get many years of use.

This rack is very heavy duty. It will carry 2 bikes up to 80lbs. It’s great for RVs. It’s good on a suv but does not tilt for cargo area access. You also need to buy a tray kit for each fat bike you want to carry. Easy to assemble. It was delivered very promptly. The seller, Modula racks were great!

This is a solid bike rack. One of the few rated for eBikes to hang off the back of a 5th wheel. It was extremely easy to assemble. The anti-wobble design works extremely well and I was impressed to see them use the same key to secure the rack to the receiver (hitch pin) and the retention hooks that secure the bikes to the rack. The adjustability of the retention hooks is a bit rigid in that they either fit their orientation or it does not. It would be nice to have the capability to adjust the hook orientation side to side rather than just up and down. I had to be creative in using this with my two Lectric XP 3.0 Stepthrough eBikes. The only problem I have with this great rack is that I simply cannot understand why all the engineering dollars were spent on creating this solid rack and plastic was used for the latch on the critical center post where the retention hooks slide. I would have paid the $3 extra for a metal latch. Note that for the previously mentioned Lectric bike, you will need the adapter bar to server as a secure point for the retention hook to grab onto. Having the ability for the rack to pivot forward so that I could get into the rear of my vehicle would have been nice, however I suspect that was not included in support of the strength needed to be rated for the back of a trailer/5th wheel. Excellent product.

We were looking for a very stable, heavy duty E-bike rack. This fit perfectly. It is well constructed and holds our two e-bikes with ease.

For bike racks, our situation is a tough one - we have a 5th wheel trailer and an e-bike, 64 lbs. for the latter. That disqualifies 95% of racks out there, due to the weight, stress and movement/energy transfer to the rear of the trailer. Our Facebook group for Grand Design RV’s pointed us to Swagman for RV racks. A quick look at their website convinced us that their recommendations were spot on!The construction and materials are superb! All powder-coated steel or polymer, and fitment is precise. The bikes load up nicely, since the center post folds down to allow loading the first bike (closest to the RV), and the padded bars lock down securely for stability and prevent theft. It’s worth every penny of this investment.

Bought this much more beefy rack when we bought two 49 pound (each) e bikes. Had never heard of Swagman, but based on appearance and excellent customer ratings/reviews, bought it.Instructions are not great as they contradict illustrations, so be sure to look closely at both. Otherwise, not difficult to assemble.Nice attachment system to trailer hitch in that there is a screw in pin, that keeps rack from vibrating or shifting.Tie down system is solid feeling and bikes did not move. Also used on my much lighter Gian hybrid bike and worked perfect.Inverted "U", shaped locking brackets work well. Use a heavier lock if leaving bikes unattended or overnight as a good criminal could break them, but solid for holding in place while driving or leaving in a very visible area.I put the shorter locking bracket below the longer one to secure my wives step through frame and it worked fine and I used the other longer one to secure my traditional frame.Flat black powder coat finish looks and feels pretty hearty.I'd buy again and recommend!
