Rim was great. Minus a star for poor packaging. Rim was packing taped directly to cardboard so had to remove all the sticky residue.

I bought this for my first wheel build and it built up straight and true and seems pretty strong for us big guys

No issues at all. Built up myself. straight true and round. Nothing unusual. Great price as well.

I keep coming back to the CR18 - it's very light (short of carbon), very strong and durable, and very inexpensive. It may well be a difficult rim to mount tires on - people do complain and some of my tires take a fair effort, but good technique wins out (go to the Sheldon Brown site for how to mount a tire).I couldn't see whether this was for Schraeder (car) or Presta valves, but bought it anyway. Mine arrived Presta.

See my review for "SunRingle Sun CR-18 700c 32 hole Silver rim", which is the same thing as this, as far as I can tell, except with less spoke holes, and in silver. The only thing I'll note that's different, is that the black finish (I guess it's anodized?) wears off with brake use. I would have liked if the rim stayed black, but the apparent durability and quality of construction is more important to me than looks.

Out of the box, these rims appear to be well built and sturdy with a solid matte black finish. My first pair (silver) lasted me thousands of miles before I sold the bike they were on. A closer look at this pair shows that the seam fit/finish is very smooth and hardly noticeable from more than a foot away, with a step not more than .001" at the highest spots. Also, like with many rims and wheels I've used, the outside spoke holes that contact the tire liner have burrs that should be cleaned up with a 1/2" 90deg countersink mounted to a cordless drill (don't chamfer/bevel the holes, just 'break' the edge to de-burr). It is important to give any critical bike parts a very close visual inspection before use. Good rims, good price, GREAT BARGAIN!
