I struggled with the rating because the pump is well constructed, is powerful and works as advertised. However there is one significant flaw for my application. I had a need for a fountain pump and I specifically looked for the auto shut off feature so when the fountain base ran dry the pump would auto shut off. Unfortuantely, for the pump to work and not auto shut off it must be practically fully submerged. There are holes in the back of the case that are very near the top and if not fully submersed the pump shuts off. This is way to high for most home fountain applications and the range between full and below those holes is way to small. For an application in which the pump would be fully submerged... 5-stars.

I wasn't sure about ordering this pump as it was less expensive than the ones I've been using for many years. My Beckett pump finally died. I needed a pump quickly for my pond so I thought I would try this one. It works very well and I'm pleased with the performance. I've been using it for 7 to 8 months. No problems.

We have a big fountain with a pineapple. Our last pump did not shoot the water up high enough to hear it hit the water. This pump has plenty of power and shoots the water up high so we get the sound we want. Very happy with purchase! The photo shows you the size of our fountain.

I agree with others that the instructions are quite bad. After trying many times, we finally decided that potentially breaking it was our only option to try and open for cleaning. It's an awkward shape for any size hand to grasp, so I finally resorted to putting in a vice. Voila, and it didn't break. I hope this helps others.I used this for two unintended purposes: to temporarily move a fairly large water surface area to prevent mosquitos from hatching, until I could empty the water. The slow movement, given the size of the area, was enough to succeed.And our absolutely wonderful (OLD) self-pumping Shop Vac's pump-out hose port broke off. No replacing this treasure. So the Shop Vac was used to suck the water. Then a long tube was attached to this pump to "relocate" the collected water. Another success, even it was awkward. Necessity is the mother.....Now that I've cleaned this pump, I plan to use it as intended. Great pump! I have one of the smaller ones - both are great quality.
