You get these, hoping they'll be an easy solution. They could be, if you don't mind your ceiling looking worse with them than without them.

It says this product is returned often, idk why.Worked great for my application around a porcelain light fixture.I even needed to do some custom trimming to make it work and the finished install was clean.A Sheetrock knife and patience is required.

The junction box was slightly below the level of the ceiling and showed above the fan. Had to cut the inside of the medallion to conform to the shape of the junction box, but it cut easily. Glued it to the ceiling and problem solved. Plus it looks like it's part of the ceiling fan.

I plan on changing out the recessed lights over my dining room table to two pendant lights. I can see that it’s possible I was going to need these surrounds after I did some measuring. These particular ones are perfect in size and being they are very basic. They are perfect with the modern looking Lights that I have. Hopefully, I will get this done just after Christmas and I will post pictures when I get to that point definitely what I was looking for good quality, lightweight, nice and thick so they won’t be something. I’ll worry about breaking. They coming to halves. The size is perfect for a while. I’ll be doing but make sure you Measure. I’m excited to get the lights up now that I finally have the surrounds. Good value good price.

After I replaced a flush mount ceiling fixture with a pendant I found that the ceiling plate that came with the pendant fixture wouldn't cover up the hole at the ceiling junction box. I've used ceiling medallions to solve this problem in the past, the main difference being I've always used medallions made from a single piece of material. I thought this split design would be a timesaver due to being able to install the medallion without having to rewire the fixture. I was wrong.First, I found that the inner 4" diameter of the medallion would have worked with most of the ceiling light fixtures in my house, but not the one I needed it for. If the inner diameter was 1/2" smaller, the pendant's ceiling plate would have effectively served to hold the medallion in place against the ceiling. But it was too small. I could have glued the medallion to the ceiling, but I really didn't want to do that. The most informative thing I learned with this little project is that split design ceiling medallions don't actually save you time if you want them to look good. While you can install them without having to rewire the fixture, to achieve a clean looking install you'd need to caulk and paint the medallion to do a decent job of hiding the seam. It's no fault of the medallion's manufacturing. The seams are reasonably tight between the two pieces. It's just that the are still quite noticeable no matter how precisely you line them up. In the end it would take much less time to rewire the fixture than make this particular medallion look good. Lesson learned: always use a single piece ceiling medallion in the future. There is one caveat to this. If you're not comfortable rewiring your own light fixtures, the two piece medallion may be your best solution.
