Difficult to use hex head bolts. Poor design. Countersinks on cover requires washers to fill.Insufficient clearance to use a socket for standard hex head bolts.

Cover has a raised boss for the cam button that is too tight. There is plenty of material to shave off for the correct clearance.

1968 El Camino short water pump did not clear the cover. Trying different head 1/4”-20 bolts on the back of the pump.
