This is exactly what I needed! We have a hill in our back yard and typically in the summer it gets very green and full of native vegetation. Last summer we planted several very large trees on the hill and in order to do that, we had to carry them up with very heavy equipment. It tightly compacted all the dirt in certain areas of the hill and things had a lot of trouble growing back in that area. We needed to aerate and loosen up the dirt again so it can recover. I tried this out this evening and it worked remarkably well. It managed to cut right through the tightly compacted dirt. I’m very excited to see how this helps throughout the summer! It’s absolutely a very effective and simple aerator. Assembly was very simple as well. It came in three pieces and has all the hardware and tools you need to assemble. It’s a great tool! This is a very nice, solidly made and efficient aerator for small areas. Obviously, this is not for large yards, but is a great alternative to an expensive, large and unwieldy aerator. It is a breeze to use and self-cleans most of the soil/debris off the tines. The only change is there isn't a way to lock it out to avoid the tines from moving by accident. It came with a piece of cardboard, but that won't last. Perhaps a clip of some sort would make this aerator just about perfect for this application.

This is heavy duty aerator. It is easy to use but it does not cover much ground (about 6" x10") so if you have a large yard it will take a while. I used it after a heavy rain so the ground was fairly soft. It has thin spikes so the pressure you apply puts a lot of force into a small area so they go in easily, however I imagine the holes will close up much sooner than an aerator that actually pulls plugs out of the ground, but those are large and expensive, and not practical for a small yard. This unit does self clean the spikes well and I didn't see any debris collecting on them after 20 minutes or so of use. I am sure this will help let water and air to the soil. One note on the assembly, throw out the small wrenches that come with the unit and use a couple of 10mm wrenches to assemble three sections of the tool.

I bought this aerator to get into small areas around my lawn / garden beds. First off, it was very easy to assemble. You don't need a second set of hands to put it together, and it took me all of 5 minutes to assemble. The device is not heavy, so for us ladies who enjoy working on the lawn, this device is easy to handle. The springs are strong and releases easily. It reminds me of the old fashion pogo sticks, where you push down and when you release pressure, it springs back. I was surprised how much area I was able to cover in such a short amount of time.

Well I've had several other aerators from the ones you wear on your feet to a thicker tubed one that is supposed to pull plugs out. This is my favorite one though. What I like about it is it feels solid. It's able to get though hard and compacted soil with relative ease. I've used this one all over my lawn in loose and also so hard compacted soils and it worked like a charm. Is it because I'm a bigger guy and have more weight to push down with? I don't know but it really was much easier than thr others I've owned. The sping loading is a very nice feature to prevent clumping on the device and preventing frequent clean up to get it to function properly like some of the others I've had. It just had a satisfying feel to it and more importantly, it did what it's supposed to do.I can funny support this product after testing it.
