I received this item through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.I ordered this hour meter for my zero turn lawn mower. Since the mower is a fairly expensive piece of equipment, I want to keep it maintained on a proper schedule. Unfortunately it is hard to keep track of just how much I use it, so I have been doing maintenance by X number of calendar months. With this device I was hoping I could keep track of how many actual hours the mower has been running and do the proper maintenance accordingly. The device has a built in battery. To keep track of when the mower is running a wire wraps around a spark plug wire. Whenever the spark plug fires, it induces a current in coil, letting the timer know to keep running. The CMOS EEPROM system maintains the hours even when the mower is off. It looked to be an elegant and simple solution at a price much more affordable than the option that I turned down when I bought the mower. HOWEVER... I installed this on my mower on January 2 of 2025. With the bitter cold sub-zero weather, I could not start the mower. Once the weather warmed up at the beginning of February, I started the engine to see how well the meter worked. Unfortunately, it was dead as a doornail. There is no display at all (it showed 0.0 hrs when it was installed. The unit is totally sealed, so there is no way for me to install a new battery. The unit is certainly waterproof, but it is not apparently coldproof. With its sealed design, eventually the battery would wear out and you would have to replace the entire unit. I am glad that I had not cut a hole in the fender of my mower yet. Great idea... poorly executed.

This hour meter is a perfect size to replace the failed one on our riding mower. It is easy to set up and snapped into the panel with out a problem. The sensor wire is long enough to reach the engine spark plug wires with out being overly tight. It's fully encapsulated so water should not be a problem.
