I have a couple Picard crosspeens in different weights. Picard hammers are unrivaled in craftsmanship. Your most likely thinking it's a hammer ,a chunk of ore on a wooden stick. Well Picard uses their own perpritary steel ,heatreated and surface hardened to last . Every componate carefully designed for function and longevity. The grain structure of each handle must be strong or it is not used. The special wedge that keeps the hammer head and handle togather took years of development and works fantastically. Nothing has been compromised. Hold one in your hand ,you'll feel the difference.

i am an American although i lived and worked in Europe for a period. if you walk around a hardware store, you'll notice that ball peins are nowhere to be found; in there place is a fanciful assortment of cross peins that look to be straight out of the Middle Ages.. German-pattern like this one above, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, and my personal favorite: French.... i'd suggest that unless you work heavily with rivets, the cross pein is actually more useful and versatile than the ball pein. Picard hammers are considered to be of the utmost quality in Europe, all while maintaining very reasonable prices. pick a few of these up today, you won't be disappointed.

I bought it for Blacksmithing, and I’m super happy with it. I can’t swing the bigger hammers the maker space offers without injuring my elbow. Takes a little longer with this one to move metal but it’s nice to not hurt for the rest of the week.
