I installed the first shutter and when I turned the attic fan on I noticed one of the louvers fluttering. One of the pins that hold the louvers had broken. After looking for it I discovered it in the shipping box. I have the new one installed, it works as intended. I don't like the fixed louver for the truss though.

Very pleased with this shutter. Much higher quality than the original that it replaced and the fit is near perfect. Only negative is one of the shutters is dented and one end of the frame was slightly bent in shipping. However, this doesn't seem to affect the ability of the shutter to function properly and since it's on the ceiling it's not really noticeable unless one is specifically looking for the imperfections. Might want to consider sturdier packaging prior to shipping. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend this product!

Painful to listen to and makes it so we hate to use our whole house fan.

Our old whole house fan works perfectly, but the original shutter was mostly plastic and just stopped working. You would have to push the shutters open to get them up and sometimes pull them closed. This new shutter is MUCH sturdier than the original. The solid aluminium frame was easy to mount to the ceiling. The louvers were asy to adjust and now work automatically with the fan. I would also recommend getting an insulating blanket for the shutter in the winter. We purchased one here which attaches with velcro. The two items are a great combination.

This is a higher quality unit that the vent i replaced. I had to replace my pervious unit after the people who sealed my attic also sealed the vent shut. The local utility contracts attic and house sealing as part of an energy conservation program, your tax dollars at work. I do not know what it will do for my heating bill but they did seal my attic vent closed.I had to do a lot of adaptation to get a good mount but this may be becuase the people who installed the last one did such a bad job. I had to make a frame and secure it in place and then attach teh vent to the new frame. I made the frame from 1/8" by 1" lath. The vent baldes are counterbalanced by a spring. The instruction specify that the spring be tensioned to just let the vent close. This is what ai did and in tests both sides closed relaibly. ON installation one sice stays open. Any touch will close them and if I push the vent open with a stick it always closes. Every time the fan wind opens it, it stays open. I suggest you be sure the closure is very secure. I only need it closed at the end of the season, so this issue a mild annoyanceOtherwise it's an excellent product.
