Pilot is smoothest pen category. Whichever may be nib grade. You’ll write more when using this pen.

Fine nib writes perfectly smooth and looks beautiful inked with Diamine Aqua Lagoon; a combination wet enough to show halo & sheen on Iroful, TRP and Apica premium.Highly recommend!

For as inexpensive as it is, this writes fabulously well with a great feel and a silky nib. The pen body is good quality metal and nicely weighted and the cap posts well. My only complaint is that the Pilot cartridges are a bit stingy (one is in the package) and the included suction ink bladder is clumsy. Otherwise, if you're looking for a cheap fountain pen you can afford to lose or just want to try your first fountain pen, buy one of these. You won't do any better for the money.

Pen works GREAT. It always starts right away, never dry, never too wet, never clogged. The fine tip is more like extra fine, which is ok with me, but if I were to purchase another I'd probably get a medium.I've tried the converter and it works well enough, but I prefer using an eyedropper to refill the original cartridge. It only takes a few seconds more to do and the ink lasts a lot longer before I run out. I can go probably twice as long between refills. The grip isn't terribly comfortable for my hands, but the overall pen experience is so good, I don't mind. The cap snaps on well, the weight is nice...it's just a really good pen for the price!Update: after using this pen for nearly 2 years, I'm pleased to report it's still a "first time every time" pen. If you are trying to decide between this and the Lamy Safari, I recommend you choose this one. It writes better and the lid posts better and snaps on more securely. Plus, it costs less and I think it looks better, too. The only category the Safari wins in is grip, but I find that for me, the tradeoff isn't worth it. I had a 10+ year old Safari and thought its age was why it didn't work as well as the Metropolitan, so this year I bought a new Safari (because I really do like the grip) only to find that it's very nearly as temperamental as my old one. Now I'm tempted to wish I'd just purchased another Metropolitan.

Fantastic pen for this price point.* Snap cap* Solid enough build* Aesthetics and section size a matter of taste* Came with an ink converter and one Pilot cartridgeNote: As with most pens in this price range, I found I benefited from removing and reseating nib and feed under an eye loupe before use to ensure proper nib/feed/tine alignment. Nib perfect out of the box.

I have been using this pen for a couple months now and I am really enjoying it.- Came in a timely manner and in good condition.- The case it came in, with instructions for use and maintenance, was a nice touch by PILOT. Helps keep everything together in a classy, clean way.- This pen writes smoothly and ink flows well for a fine nib - not scratchy on the paper at all. There is minimal line variation (thick and thin) with different pressures, as expected. This should not be purchased with the intentions of using it for calligraphy or hand lettering, just handwriting/writing/drawing.- The colour of pen housing/body is accurate to photos - nice and bright teal/turquoise, and weighted well - it's aluminum, I believe, so it doesn't feel cheap in your hand. If teal isn't your colour, it comes in a lot more styles/colours to choose from!- If your prefer cartridges, buy some more (or cheat and buy a syringe to refill cartridges with the appropriate bottled ink), as it only comes with one cartridge. If you write/draw lots like me, you'll go through ink fairly quickly. I bought some Pilot Namiki Standard Pen Ink in Black (Pilot Namiki Standard Fountain Pen Ink, Black -69200) to refill the converter in this pen after using up the provided cartridge and it works just as it should. Be sure to buy the correct kind of ink (no pigments that will clog the feed).- This pen is SUPER EASY to fill (converter) and with minimal mess. Just compress the little vacuum converter a few times while in the ink bottle, remove from the ink, give it a quick wipe, and go.- The cap posts fairly well on the end of the pen, although it did fall off on me a couple times. It does not have a satisfying 'snap' on/off of the end of the pen to make you feel it will stay.- I recommend capping the pen between long periods of not using it, as it will dry out otherwise (just a good fountain pen practice).I have not experienced anything truly negative since using this pen (no leakage, no explosions). I would say that only the poor posting of the cap has been mildly uncool - otherwise, an excellent starter fountain pen (or even for experienced users) that will likely last a long time if taken care of properly (and it doesn't break the bank!)

I simply adore this pen! It arrived today and this is the first fountain pen I've ever purchased that wrote beautifully out of the box without scratching or needing adjustment. Here are the pros and cons as I see them:Pros:-The gorgeous trendy colors! I bought the purple and the the color is exactly what it looked like on the site.-The body has a nice weight to it, without being heavy. I prefer the weight of the pen with the cap not posted, but I an still write easily with the cap post on the end. The body feels cool in my hand and the Pilot log is minimal and doesn't detract from the pen itself.-The nib writes perfectly right out of the box and the slit in the feed and the air hole in the nib were perfectly aligned so there were no problems at all drawing ink for the first time. I bought a Lamy Safari on Amazon two weeks ago and I could never get it to draw for this reason and had to send it back. It is clear to me that Pilot took the time to do some quality assurance before packaging my pen.-The case is great! I admit to sort of "babying" my pens and when I am not using an empty one, I like to store it in a case.-The price is outrageous for such a great pen. I starting using fountain pens so I could enjoy the variety inks available and because of the sheer novelty of the instrument, but I also enjoy not putting another plastic pen in a landfill. I use Pilot's iroshizuku inks in my pens.Con:-I'm not sure this is a con because I haven't had any troubles yet, but I don't care of the squeeze fill/ink sack mechanism. I get the feeling that I'm not getting as full of an ink load with it as a cartridge or a converter. I'll eventually get the converter recommended here on the review section.-Proprietary cartridges are a bit unnerving simply because I like to use the Waterman cartridges when I travel by air. I haven't use this cartridge yet, but it is a good size cartridge.-The clip is bland for such a pretty pen.On the balance, I'd recommend this pen to anyone who is interested in entering the fountain pen market or (like me) were eager to find an inexpensive desk pen for work that wouldn't be soul crushing to lose. I will probably get the teal colored pen eventually.
