This is what was wrong. Couple hour fix for $9. Better than a $1400 new fridge

Fraction of the price for the defrost senor only locally. GE side by side, nightmare to install if your not a Jockey. Make sure test in freezing cold water to activate them! Fridge is not freezing up for now. Purchased one more kit for the price just in case they fail. Hate the thought of doing this repair over. Update! Fridge has been working more efficiently than it has in years! Would now recommend. 5*shipping

I removed and replaced the original thermistor with the new one. It works; so far, so good.

Worked as advertised and if you're comfortable cutting and connecting wires, then this is for you. Fixed my fridge's temperature so that it wasn't running all the time and freezing our food.

After getting tired of random freezing of the freezer section of my GE refrigerator every one to two weeks, I decided to replace the evaporator coil temperature sensor. After removing the cover plate of the evaporator coil, I got access to the sensor. After cutting the sensor, I installed the new sensor by soldering the leads and covering/sealing them with heat shrink tubing. Now, the freezer is working as expected. I also found some information in the Internet, if the original sensor has a black sealer in the leads, these sensors will fail and GE has recommended to replace all of them (3 total) using a new designed sensor. I see these sensors are manufactured with white sealer in the same way the black sealer sensors are. So, it could be expected to fail in the future when the white sealer let humidity go into the sensor element. The question is how long will they last?

Product cost was very low. Product was easy to install once I located where the old one was located. For less than $10.00 I cured the problem with my freezer being too warm and my ice maker not working.

My refrigerator has been giving us a few problems since we had an "ugly" power outage. (MULTIPLE surges leading to power loss) It seems to fail after stores close, and won't be open for a day or so. Bought these as "on hand parts" and haven't had to use them yet! Don't want to hurt business with a bad rating, but can't honestly give a "good" one either.
