Had replaced my defrost timer a few years ago, determined the defrost heater was working but everything still icing up in the freezer and over time the fridge compartment got warmer and warmer. Finally after a bit of research found my defrost thermostat and thought well I’ll give this oldie but a goodie at least 20 bucks before I start looking for a replacement fridge. Installed the little part in 10 mins and was able watch the coils defrost properly. Fridge compartment is ice cold and freezer is freezing a container of water to solid ice. Another old repairable appliance saved for this time under 20 bucks and some effort. 70’s Westinghouse frost free refrigerator.

Easy install. My only comment is the pre-srtipped wires should be longer at about 5/8 inch to allow using wire nuts.

These fits multiple brands of refrigerators. We were having an issue with the fridge temperature. Replaced the oem one with this one and it works fine now. On my refridge it was kind of a pain to install so YMMV.

With lots of rental property, and not wanting to carry a lot of replacement parts for "when something breaks", being able to order proper replacement parts that match the manufacturer, AND at a great price, AND with super-speedy delivery is a HUGE WIN.

Worked perfect and solved my defrost problem!I had already checked the defrost element for continuity and checked the output of the defrost timer so I had it narrowed down to the defrost thermostat. To test I bypassed it and the defrost worked. I ordered this defrost thermostat and had it in 3 days. It completely solved the problem. Just for kicks I took the old one apart and moisture had gotten into it and corroded off the one connection. 👍

Worked like a charm and very easy to install/replace the old one. One criticism: the butt connectors were too big for the wire. I swapped them out for some red ones I had. The included head shrink tube was also too big for each wire so I used some smaller dual wall adhesive heat shrink instead. Updated accessories would make this a 5 star.

Arrived quickly. Includes thermostat, crimp connector, and heat shrink. Seemed to be an exact match for my Frigidaire, right down to the temperature markings. I installed by soldering rather than using the crimp connector, but even so the included heat shrink was insanely large...not sure how it could ever have worked so I used my own. I tested the part beforehand and it seemed to be working.Overall this was an affordable and easy fix for a very common fridge problem. Well worth it and good purchase.

I needed a defrost thermostat in a hurry and they provided a small kit with everything needed to replace it. The thermostat was less expensive than ones I pay wholesale for at my local distributor. I definitely would purchase again!Hopefully, this will help you out.On a number of refrigerator/freezers, defrost problems can consist of one, or more, of the following problems.1. Bad defrost timer2. Bad defrost heater3. Bad defrost thermostatFor those that are not technicians, diagnostics can be tricky. The suggestions below assume that you have what is now considered to be an older technology refrigerator (no computers or digital displays). If you are trying to save money on a repair, you can also consult YouTube for pointers.A defrost problem is typically determined by several symptoms... refrigerator section is warmer than normal and inside your freezer, there will be an unusual build up of frost on the back panel (this will be crystal/snowy consistency, instead of solid, hard ice). Also, please check to see if the fan motor in the freezer is running. If it is not, you may not have a defrost problem. Here is where it starts getting a little more challenging. You need to locate the defrost timer.A defrost timer is a clock with mechanical switches inside that turns your refrigerator off periodically and turns on a heating element in your freezer to melt frost that accumulates on the evaporator (cooling coil). Defrost times occur on average every six to eight hours and will typically last around 20 minutes. The defrost timer is a smallish part (a little smaller than your fist) with an electrical plug housing four wires. Locations will vary, but in most cases the defrost timer will be near the temperature control. On many refrigerators, like the Frigidaire I just repaired, you can manually enter the defrost cycle without having to disassembly of the control panel.I will use the Frigidaire top mount freezer/refrigerator as my example. On the control panel, from the front of the refrigerator to back, you will first see the temperature control in the front and the light bulb socket in the back. The defrost timer can be located by finding a hole approximately the size of a dime angled an inch or so from the hole.Place your pinky finger in the hole and you will feel something plastic with notches. This is the manual advance for the defrost timer.Insert a flat head screw driver into the slot and turn it slowly counter-clockwise. This will only turn in one direction (when you are turning this, it is normal to hear a clicking noise).Once the refrigerator shuts off, the refrigerator is in a defrost cycle. The fan(s) and compressor stop running and the defrost heater SHOULD begin to operate. At this point, stop and take a few minutes to listen inside the freezer. As a defrost cycle takes ~20 minutes, during that time a heating element behind the panel begins to heat, melting accumulated frost.IF you hear a sizzling noise (like water hitting a hot surface) and/or see something at the bottom of the back freezer panel, you need to replace the defrost timer (you will need the refrigerator brand & model number or the part number of the defrost timer). If, after 20 - 25 minutes and you do not hear/see what I described above, you will need to then UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR and remove the back panel. Now, if you have any trepidation or worry, stop, plug the refrigerator back in and call a qualified technician. Leave it running so the tech can see the frost formation, making it easier to diagnose. If you want to venture on, remove the back panel to see the evaporator and defrost components. The defrost components will consist of a defrost heater and a defrost thermostat. The heater will either be glass with a spring looking coil (older refrigerators) or it will be made out of the same material as a burner on a stove (blackish metal) and will be almost the width of the inside of the freezer. The thermostat will look like a disk (round with two wires about the diameter of a quarter clipped to one of the coil lines. It will be mostly metal, except where the wires are attached. That will be some type of hard plastic.Examine the defrost thermostat carefully. If you see any places where it is malformed or if the plastic is raised in one or more spots, replace the thermostat.Over time, water has migrated into the thermostat and frozen causing the plastic seal to rupture. If this has not occurred, you are at a decision point. You can do one of the following:1. Replace the defrost heater AND the defrost thermostat. This is a shotgun approach, but it will fix the problem.2. If you are handy with a multimeter or VOM, check the resistance of the heating element to see if it is an open circuit (does not read) or closed (showing a circuit path). If it reads open, replace the element. If closed, replace the defrost thermostat. If you choose to fix the refrigerator yourself and order parts, unplug the refrigerator and leave both doors open at least two inches. This will allow the freezer to defrost and keeps it from smelling. One last thing. Before you begin to replace parts, take pictures of every wire, connection and parts placement from several angles, making sure you get location of parts, wire colors and where everything connects.Trust me cameras on cell phones have saved me many times and will pay for themselves many times over if you forget or miss a step.
