Origin8 designs are great. The hex screw for controlling tightness is what sold me. These are slightly dull polished silver instead of coated chrome. The weight is acceptable.

They're V-brakes; they work. The beauty of V-brakes is there really isn't that much that can go wrong. If there's any advantage to more expensive brakes, presumably it will be that they can stay tuned and free-moving for longer or something. I can't see why these won't work for years.But can the brakes cause squeal? Because I'm on my second set of pads to deal with chronic squealing. I've set the toe-in, I've ensured the rims & pads are thoroughly degreased, but first Kool Stops, and then the Avid pads I replaced them with are squealing. I have years of experience with adjusting pads without squeal, and I'm starting to wonder if the brakes are contributing... I'll be doing some experiments, and if they're implicated, I'll be back and docking stars...

provides excellent stopping power for rider plus bike of 210 pounds. even better when i put clarks brake shoes on them.
