Loved being able to just pour water in the bag to heat up. Taste was not bad. Only complaint is the price. Can find similar product for half the price at most camping stores although not sure how they taste. If just thinking about taste I would buy again.

I bought the Turkey Chili at Academy sports for $8. I had never used an MRE type meal. Usually I would heat water for a dehydrated Mountain House or just cook something. The heating packet worked well. Lots of steam. Very hot foil packet of chili. Tasted good.A single serve Mountain House chili has a little over 200 calories, so these are in the same boat. Dont rely on this to replace major calories. Bring some crackers for the chili and a snickers bar for desert. The extra weight from the pack of flameless starter is a small issue. Dont carry these on a major hike. Use dehydrated. But for an overnighter when you do not want to bring a stove and isobutane, these meals would be nice. I like the idea of the potato and bacon breakfast. Stay in your tent and sleeping bag, add a little water, and put the meal outside your tent but inside your rainfly. Quick and easy breakfast.

Full disclosure. I bought this meal locally(for a lot less). As someone whose eaten several generations of MRE's this one was't too bad. It's about what you would expect as far as taste goes. The heater started off well but, pooped out after a minute or two. The instructions say to let it heat for 3-5 minutes so i had a half heated meal with a bit of a metallic aftertaste. A small portion as well but at least it came with a spoon.

I bought one of these to try to go along with several Mountain House dehydrated meals, for a 23 mile mountain hike this past week. It was neato to watch it work, and cooked/steamed well. The food tastes pretty good for this type of camp food. My only BIG problem with this product is afterward disposal. I carry all my trash back out with me as there is usually no trash cans along mountain paths. So space and weight considerations are premium. You have to hydrate the chemical heating pack with water to start the reaction. The main cooking pouch has a steam vent hole in the top of the ziplock pouch. So after cooking and eating you're left with a wet chemical "sponge" about the size of your palm in a ziplock pouch with a drain hole in it. The sponge stays hydrated from then on so it holds weight (not good when you're carrying everything on your back). And it oozes water into the pouch with a hole in it. This leaked all over the inside of my food stuff-sack before I realized it. I couldn't throw it away. And you cant burn the chemical pack. I normally just fold up the mountain home meal pouches and zip them closed and they weigh nothing and don't take up any real space. I was stuck with it the whole time out on my hike. Yuck. Great idea, poorly executed with no place to trash it.

I purchased several of these for hunting. I typically hike in about 4-5 miles in the forest, and these meals were a nice treat for lunch & dinner. I agree with the other reviewers that they are slightly more expensive MRE's, and the heaters work very well. They did have a slight chemical taste, and that was my major objection. Overall, I would buy them again.
