I perform engineering inspections of buildings for work. I am often on a roof, in an attic, or under a house in the crawlspace. I need something compact, durable, and dependable. This camera generally fits the bill. The stock battery is good for only 150 photos or so, and the aftermarket ones I found are marginally better. I need at least four batteries for a full day's work, and then I have to charge all four overnight if I have a full day tomorrow. Here are some other thoughts:1. I love the adjustable screen, but it is really only useful when taking low pictures from higher than the camera. It doesn't adjust to allow you to reach above your head and see what you're aiming at, such as when trying to take a photo of something on the other side of a fence or tall object.2. The zoom is adequate, but the button is in an awkward location. I often inadvertently zoom in just when holding the camera. I am constantly zooming out before i take a picture just to make sure. Perhaps that reduces battery life somewhat.3. I have no idea how well this shoots underwater, and I don't plan to find out. It does hold up well in a slight rain.4. I haven't dropped it yet, so no comments on that aspect.5. The picture quality is adequate for my needs. I often take zoomed-in photos and zoom in further using software. I can take a picture of a steep roof from the ground and observe cracked roof tiles or missing shakes when viewing the photos at my computer.6. The super-macro is great. Using this setting and a flashlight, I can take a picture of the back of a hollow concrete masonry unit through a 1/8-inch crack in the front face. Try that with a DSLR.7. I wish it had a customizable self-timer. It's either 2 seconds or 10 seconds. You either have to hurry up or wait forever (seemingly). Not a big deal, but I'm sure it would not be hard to program that into a firmware update.8. The price is rather steep, but I bought this thing nonetheless. I pacify myself by thinking that the extra cost (versus a non-rugged point-and-shoot) is due to some space-age technology or material that gives the camera the proclaimed toughness. In reality, it's probably a piece of foam or something else worth about 20 cents.

Love the camera but did have a problem with it dying on me at the start of a vacation which was a bummer, however Canon fixed it on warranty and all is now well.

Probably the best camera in its category.Exceptional value, combining an above average feature set (GPS, WiFi, Flipping LCD, 21mm wide lens and very durable) with an affordable price.I would prefer soft rubber finish on the sides. I think it would make the camera even more... shockproof.Image quality is good, video quality is also good, just don't expect miracles. It has small 1/2.3" image sensor after all, the picrure quality is on par with cameras using similar sized sensors. Colors are vibrant and pleasant as with all Olympus cameras. The only thing I don't like is the aspect ratio of the sceen.Images ara 4:3 but the screen is 16:9.16:9 maybe good for video recording but for photos is annoying as it limits the preview size. Also note that using GPS and WiFi will reduce the autonomy so it's a good idea to get a 2nd battery, just in case.Overall, very happy with the purchase and I strogly recommend it if you want and affordable and reliable underwater/all weather compact camera.

Used this camera on our most recent trip to Disney. The underwater pictures turned out great, which was a lot of fun. Even underwater video! Wi-fi function is great to immediately load pics to my cell phone and then social media. A little disappointed in the low light quality though. Also, the "firework" setting does NOT capture fireworks. Maybe it is my lack of camera knowledge but I figured putting it on "firework" setting would mean it could capture firework photos. It could not. My cell phone did a better job at it on automatic. Battery life is short, I find. Buttons on the back are a little hard to use (to change settings for example). And the charger is not a micro usb charger, which is too bad because most other things are these days. Flip up screen was fun for selfies underwater. I'll continue to use it, don't think it'd be my first choice to buy new again though!

So far, so GREAT! I LOVE this camera. I am thankful I waited for this instead of buying the older model. Now, I feel all high-tech-y, and you will to! This is a great camera, but I have not ever used or seen the older versions - so I can't compare them. I have had Olympus cameras before, and this one I expect to last me just as long (or longer! it feels solid!). If you can afford it, go ahead and get one! Buy some screen protectors and a case, while you're on Amazon, tooUPDATE: I have taken many pictures and a few videos. Quality-wise: I am not shooting for Nat. Geo., but this is something I would use to make a semi-professional movie. You can set it to show you your images (in preview) so that they are oriented in the way the camera remembers you held it. It's got a nice "flip" screen so you can take "selfies." If you are filming yourself with a tripod or a monopod, you could totally make some use out of this thing. Did I mention this camera feels SOLID? I think it could hold up to some drops, but with their fancy camera holder and s-t-u-r-d-y strap you shouldn't be dropping the thing. It comes with one battery, yes, but for some reason the almost $300 could not equip this camera package with a wall charger. Yes, there is a charger; yes, you can use a wall outlet. No, you can not take the battery out of the camera and use the camera without charging: the cord plugs into the wall (USB:transformer:outlet or USB:computer) and then into your camera. It is kind of a peeve, but I didn't know and so I ended up buying another charger. I bought one of the $20 packages here on Amazon that came with a wall charger, an extra battery, a mini-tripod, screen protector, and a floaty strap. It was worth it to me with all those extras, and it felt like Christmas when the package came. I also purchased a legitimate "Olympus" batteries just in case the generic one in the package did not work and it was only $10.The pictures really impressed me. The videos have not been "analyzed" in great detail, but they are good enough for me at this moment. I have yet to get underwater footage/images, but I will update when I do. I will also show you guys an image or film when possible.
