NICHE PISTON

An ATV piston is a component of engines, pumps, and gas compressors. It is located in a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft through a piston rod and or connecting rod

Piston Anatomy

A piston is a cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process. The piston acts as a movable end of the combustion chamber. The stationary end of the combustion chamber is the cylinder head.

Piston Components

ATV Piston components include the piston head, piston pin bore, piston pin, skirt, ring grooves, ring lands, and piston rings. The piston head is the top surface of the piston which is subjected to tremendous forces and heat during normal engine operation

NICHE GASKET

A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Some Types of Gaskets:

  • Head gaskets create a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. This seal establishes a proper compression and prevents fluid leaks into the cylinders
  • Base gaskets create a seal between the top-end of your engine and the engine cases. Stop pesky engine oil leaks before they cause permanent damage to your engine.
  • The valve cover is sealed to the upper section of the engine cylinder head by a valve cover gasket. As it passes around the camshafts, rockers, and valves, the gasket stops engine oil from seeping out.

Wasted 10 hours on this, put it all together per OEM specs in manual, torque specs, valve lash, ring gap, ring orientation (I've done a ton of engine work, this isn't new to me.) Would not run, would only pull in 2 to 3 lbs of compression, tore it all down and double check ring orientation and sequence, still nothing, re checked valve clearance multiple times, still nothing. Checked cylinder for flatness, it was not even close to flat causing a leak at the base gasket. Closely inspected valves as they went through rotation and they would not open all the way. Fast forward a week later, I ordered a complete setup from Top Notch Parts and put it together in a half hour, running beautiful. Strong compression and sounds great. Not sure if I got an assembly from NICHE that was made on a Friday at 3 pm or what, hope this review saves some people time if it doesn't work out for them right out of the gate.

Quick and easy top end rebuild bike now runs like new

This was the first time that I did a top end rebuild. My bike was the victim of the big flood here in 2016 and I could not get to work on it until now 2019. Three years sitting with water in the cylinder destroyed the original. This kit came with everything that I needed to replace the original. Everything fit together perfectly and started right up and runs great. Make sure you adjust the valve clearance at TDC before starting. They were tight from the factory and I could not get the feeler gauge in without backing off. I have about 10 hours on it now with NO PROBLEMS. Great buy, glad I went with this kit.
