This rope was excellent for crafts as well as shibari. The smell out the box was pleasant and it was ready to be put to use. I may treat it a bit to make it slightly softer and longer lasting but I have no complaints at all.

I got the 1.5-inch rope, and it is great. It feels soft in my hands, is not itchy or irritating, and doesn't hurt at all to hold it. It also doesn't have a very strong smell like oil, like other ropes I have gotten. Also, the ends are nicely weaved back into themselves to keep them together, as you can see in my picture. I really like it and I have multiple ideas of what to do with it, including a nice rope swing and other fun things in my backyard. Here's my issue: Is it 'Jute' or is it 'Hemp'? The description says both, and I didn't know anything about the two different types until I got this rope and had to do some research. Jute is one fiber, hemp is another. Jute usually requires more conditioning, like oil, in order to keep it in good quality and give it a softer feel. Hemp apparently doesn't require as much conditioning, if any at all, and hemp generally feels softer, and is stronger. So, what IS this rope? It is soft, doesn't have alot of conditioning oil on it, and seems to be at a high price...So I would guess hemp...But most of the descriptions for the rope on the product page say 'Jute'...In the end, I really like the rope, it feels good in my hands and is very strong. Does it matter if it is Jute or Hemp, maybe not so much for me.... But I'd also like to know what I'm getting when I place an order on Amazon, so I would appreciate it if they would clarify their description of the product on the web page.Found this info on the internet:"Jute is a long, rough, shiny bast fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is produced from flowering plants in the genus Corchorus, of the mallow family Malvaceae. The primary source of the fiber is Corchorus olitorius, but such fiber is considered inferior to that derived from Corchorus capsularis.""Hemp rope is made from the fibers of the hemp plant. The natural fibers that surround the inner hemp stalk make good rope because they are strong, durable, and mold, mildew, and ultraviolet-light resistant."

As soon as I opened the box, this jute rope impressed me. It has been well conditioned; it is softer and more pleasant to the touch than other jute ropes we have used. It has very little odor of any batching oil. Overall, this rope is a great value for crafting and uses where people and animals are in contact with it. We have been using a lot of jute rope around our farm for environmental fencing. This 1 1/2 diameter jute rope is PERFECT for our fences. The jute rope fences are used to keep visitors out of areas we are trying to minimize foot traffic in. We love that the jute rope is a natural material and when it's service life is done, it can be composted back to the soil. This jute rope is a sustainable and environmentally friendly material that we have no concerns using for landscaping projects like fences or for work like felling trees or pulling out stuck ATVs.I am very happy with the twist of this jute rope and how tightly wound it is. The material, workmanship, and quality of this jute rope is top of the line and expect it to last us for several years.

This jute rope is ok. The rope weave feels a bit loose. I’m going to use this for cat posts, so I hope it doesn’t immediately shred.

This product was advertised as being "natural" and safe for pets. It is neither, as it was treated with a petroleum like oil. You can smell it immediately. The rope is otherwise good quality, but I would advise buying strictly for outdoor use as it has a strong smell. The oils these tend to be treated with are carcinogenic as well. I was hoping to make a bunch of tied chew ropes for our 90 lb dog, but now this rope will sit in the garage until I find something to do with it.
