Great quality. Only downside is the screw cap is crazy heavy. If they change that, it would be 5 stars for sure.

I don't normally do reviews on products, but I am super impressed with this canteen. Made extremely well, robust cap which is cnc milled. Wont break like the standard issue aluminum canteen lids. The gasket is made of silicone which should give years of leak proof service.Storing water in a stainless bottle is much more appealing than storing it in aluminum which can leech into the water and be ingested. Same with the Cup which is typically used to boil water. The only con that I can mention is that it is heavy, comparitively speaking to a typical military surplus canteen kit

I bought this and was pretty happy with the quality of the product. However after only a couple of times using it...it has sadly started to rust on the inside of the canteen. Quite disappointing given the price of this item. I ordered it from the USA (to the UK) so probably too difficult to return it.. so just wanted to highlight this potential issue to others looking at this product.

Great version of the original US Military canteen and cup. Doesn't leak. Cap is really heavy though. But its extremely durable. Cup nests flawlessly. Fits well with the molle II canteen pouch. Still have to test it over a fire to boil water and cook with the cup.As a note the cup doesn't nest with the plastic US military canteen.UPDATE: fire test success! Fire! Fire! Fire! Lol. Used it a few times. I kept the empty bottle on the fire to black out the shine on the top a bit. Boiled water with the bottle to. If it gums up to much its difficult to get the cup on and off FYI. I always have a little cut of a brillo pad to clean anyways so I use it to smooth out the bottle so it fits smoothly again in the field.I will be buying a USGI 1 qt. Canteen SS lid and maybe the stove. Not sure if they will fit with the ALPH 1. Will update then.

For over a year now, I’ve been using this canteen for camping trips and regular walks with my dog, and it’s done its job keeping us both hydrated. I paired it with Rothco’s vintage canteen carry, because the shoulder strap makes it really convenient to throw on and keep your hands free.So first off, this canteen doesn’t leak. That’s high up on the list of priorities for me. I discovered the ALFA 1 because I was looking for an alternative to my plastic Nalgene canteen that had disappointingly started leaking.Second, it’s sturdy. That cap IS heavy duty. Could you pop it into a sling and use it to slay Goliath? Probably. But I don’t understand others complaining that it’s tooooo heavy. I mean what kind of noodle-armed weakling is gonna have a problem carrying a canteen cap that weighs a few more ounces than a plastic one? Canteens get dropped sometimes, and I like ones that don’t break. And lastly, the company’s customer service was impressive. You need to pop out the cap’s silicone gasket occasionally to clean under it. I mistakenly didn’t do that for a long time, so it got a little gross under there and scrubbing didn’t quite bring the gasket back to pristine condition. I emailed the company, and they quickly sent a couple of replacement gaskets free of charge. Can’t beat that.

This canteen will follow you till the end of the line! It's sturdy, versatile, the lid won't crack and the seal is replacable...

Better than the Rothco canteen, my only gripe is that the threaded mouth is made from pressed sheet metal rather than having actual machined threads... the cap is however pretty much indestructible. The cap is machined from a single piece of steel and will never break. I suspect the first thing to fail on this canteen would be the threads on the pressed steel mouth wearing out over time, however it should last a very long time. I bought two of these canteens just in case, should last me a lifetime.

I wish a lid and a stove stand were available for the canteen cup. Otherwise, it's quite sturdy and unlike the two plastic lid canteens I tried (and returned) before buying this one, it doesn't leak at all. I'm sure the stainless cap will last forever. I do have a couple of relatively minor complaints: first, the canteen lid can be a little difficult to unscrew, especially when I'm sweaty. However, the lid I got is the one that only had a few raised ridges around the circumference to grip; it's entirely possible that the fully-knurled lid shown in the manufacturer's first picture may be easier to grip. Stainless steel on stainless steel has a tendency to gall anyway, there's no getting around that. Second, the canteen cup handles are very loose and flop around with the slightest movement. Not an issue when it's in the canteen cover, of course. I'm toying with the idea of finding a way to tighten the fit of the handle's hinge points, but I haven't decided on anything permanent yet. Right now I'm thinking a small shim made from a can would probably do the trick. Minor complaints, as I admitted, but at this price point I think there really shouldn't be any.

I have fairly extensive experience with canteens, from the old aluminum GI canteen, through the plastic era, up to higher quality plastics currently used. This is the best canteen I ever handled, lifetime quality and no plastic taste. The only exception to that is if you are really trying to reduce your load, the lid on this thing is heavy, but if you are reducing load, you are not looking at metal in the first place. The lid on this thing is truly a lifetime lid and I see no reason the canteen itself wouldn't last many, many years. Plastic lids break and the gaskets fall out, especially with the cheaper metal canteens for sale these days, and lots of luck finding a good replacement. I don't think you could damage the lid without great effort and serious tools. The gasket is held in firmly after tightening it down the first time. I contacted the company wanting more gaskets because I have lost so many from other canteens. They were more than helpful answering all my questions and requests. Great company, great product. Don't buy the cheaper plastic lid canteen even with extra gear thrown in, I did and was not thrilled with the results. Spend a couple of extra bucks, get this one and splurge on a quality belt and canteen pouch. Military surplus is cheap and you'll have a lifetime rig. I don't do many reviews, only when I really believe in the product AND the company, this is a good one.Liked it enough I bought another one. (I'm out enough I can use 2) The second one leaked at the seam. I contacted the company and in a few days, I had a replacement. Again, great company and great product. The perk to this one is the lid, won't break like the plastic ones on metal canteens. Well worth the money.
