It is a process to dial in the correct settings, but with patience, this will produce a near flawless corner. Be prepared to use some sacrificial material and go slow and steady in the router table. We used this on white pvc trim boards to wrap deck beams, and seams are very visible, but with this bit and patience, you can't even see it. The instructions don't mention it but once your pieces are assembled, run the side of a smooth screwdriver along the corner to blend the edge, and it will look like one piece. I would definitely recommend getting the depth guage tool.

We bought this bit combined with the microjig fit finder. We were able to set the height of the bit on the first try. Fence adjustment still took a while but the fit finder fewture worked excellent and we were able to get high quiality joints with minimal effort

Advertised as a breeze regardless of skill level. That was not my experience. The instructional video serves only as a demonstration of the product being used. It does not provide much in regards to other adjustments that may need to be made for this bit to perform correctly. I did not find the process as simple as it's portrayed. I use many Microjig products. And found this one to be challenging.

I now have over $100 invested in the bit and the fit finder gauge and I have used countless scraps of wood and countless settings, up, down, fence in fence out, watched countless videos and have concluded that this P.O.S. isn't worth $1 !!

The built in center mark is a game changer for cutting miter lock joints. Makes setup a breeze. Now the only challenge is holding your work piece stable. Hint: (make jigs using Microjig clamping systems)

Miter joints are among the weakest in woodworking. Lock miters increase glue area making the joint much stronger and provide alignment, serving as an alternative to box joints, dovetails, or splines. Its advantage over the alternatives is that it hides potentially unattractive end grain. Strength without sacrificing the beauty of simplicity. Admittedly, the intricacy of the alternatives can be made pretty too. This is a relatively expensive bit, At $94 this Taiwanese bit is close to the cost of the premium American and Italian made premium bits. MICROJIG is not known for the quality of their router bits. Instead the contribution is that here is a shoulder on the bit which marks the center of the bit simplifying setup. To setup any lock miter distance from the fence, height of the blade and thickness of the wood all must harmonized. Once the center of the bit and wood match, the only remaining task is to set the fence. There are three strategies for setup centering the bit and wood..1) Use the MICROJIG bit and the setup jig (sold separately for $35).Total cost is $129. The jig has limited other uses begging the question if they should be sold as a package.2) Buy their bit only. The shoulder is still a nice feature. But instead of their jig just use a general purpose height gauge. I think preferably digital you can get for $15.00 or so. Measure the thickness of your stock. Divide by two. Set height for the shoulder to this amount. Cost $109. The digital gauge will have many uses like setting those jointer blades and the top of table saw blades.3) Buy another bit and the height gauge. The key number is where is the center of the bit relative to your work. This method sets depth by using the top of the bit for reference rather than the shoulder. The distance from the top of the bit to the middle may vary from one bit to the next, but it is fixed for an individual bit. So, if you have the bit set up to work with .75 inch stock, the bit center is .375 above the table top. If the top of the bit is at 1.222 inches, then the distance between the top of the bit and the center of the bit is 1.222-.375 or .847. So, if now you want to use a board that is 1 inch thick, you would set the top of the bit to .847+.5x1) or 1.347. There are good quality moderately price Chinese lock miter bits for $35. Add the cost of the digital gauge you get $50 plus the one time setup angst for the bit. Yeah,Yeah, the bit and big/jig save you from doing some math. I went with option 2 because I already had the MICROJIG bit.
