I was under the impression that this item was made by Liftmaster and that is why I paid 25.00! It is a generic lock.I purchased another lock set for 10.00 and it is identical to this item.

I moved into a house that had a detached garage equipped with a garage door opener. If the power goes down there is no way to open the garage since there is no other door into the garage. This keyed cable device for releasing the garage door remotely is a must to have. There was one installed on the garage door already but I wasn't given a key. I bought this new Liftmaster item and it installed perfectly in the hole in the door already there and the screw holes were the same size also. It all was easy to install and you don't want to be caught without something like this if your power goes down.

Pretty easy to install. The only downside is that the cable was too long. I snipped it but now need to buy something to crimp the cable. I have tested it a few times and it does not fall apart as some have mentioned. I would recommend this product. If you use this it would be prudent to spray a silicon based lubricant into the locking mechanism to ensure it is protected for your time in need.

fit the door hole perfectly but the cable was a bit too short, I had to add a 1' piece to it.otherwise, works great.

I have purchased several of these and the quality is great. We live in a condo community and the garages do not have a service door. In the event of a power failure this is a must to get in the garage. Most of our residents have lost their key for the original release and this is far less money than getting a new key made.

I installed this device on a sectional aluminum garage door. Easy to install and it works as designed - Insert key and pull the lock cylinder out. There is a braided wire lanyard attached to the cylinder at one end and to the door carriage release on the other. The lanyard is not very long, so you must install the lock in one of the top door sections. Also, I used a 3/4" bi-metal hole saw to cut a hole in the door. I suppose a 3/4" drill would work, but I didn't have one for metal and I believe the hole saw does a better job cutting thin aluminum without deforming it. The resulting hole was very snug. It took some work with a rat tail file to get the lock in.

The first time we had an electric outage my wife and I figured no internet, no TV, no lights, let's go out for a ride. Whoops! No electric no way to get the car out so we hung around for a bit with our neighbors saying bad things about Tucson Electric. Actually when we bought the condo, there was an emergency release but the previous owner had lost the key. Local .locksmiths were charging $35 plus installation so I thought I'd try the internet. It's a joke in my family that I use my Prime membership to buy everything from toothpaste to pajamas to office furniture and Walla! there was something that looked like what I had. It was a perfect fit and the installation, which I did myself was easy. It was not only the perfect solution for the problem, but it also impressed my neighbors.:-)

These, especially at this price, are a must have! Even if you have another main entrance into your house, even if you aren't really ever going to need them, they're still nice to have "just in case" for this price. Seem well enough made, throw in a little lube when you install them so if they sit for 10 years before you ever go to use them they should still be nice and free. Installation (in my wooden doors) took maybe 10-15 minutes and they work great. Just bore a 3/4" hole with a spade bit, that will give you a snug fit where you can just tap them in with a mallet. Make sure they're straight and drill the small top and bottom holes, stick the screws in, remove the rope from the latch release (on the opener) and done. I used key rings to install the cable to the release latch, find another use for the hooks as they won't stay put unless you crimp them and then it'll be a pain if you ever want to get them off. During the winter my garage is the only way into the house because I'm too dam lazy to shovel the stupid walks (which, here in upstate NY, 3 miles from Lake Ontario, the middle of the stinking snow belt, can get 2' of snow in a few hours) so if I came home during a power outage I'd be camping out. Now I don't have a care in the world!

I have a detached garage and a keyless entry lock ( punch in 4 #'s and the handle can turn) but because of the extreme low temps this winter the lock would not work. And for some reason the door opener would not work. So I ordered this release lock. Now I can put in the key and pull the cable and open the garage door. Very easy to install. You need a 3/4 " drill but you can get a tapered reamer cheap at Harbor Freight for about $6 if you have a metal door.
