They don't cut straight unless you tighten the wheel down a lot before you start turning it. Other than that they cut pretty fast and the wheels all turn well but I would spend a little more to get something more accurate.

I've been cutting large amounts of 1/4 inch copper and sterling silver tubing for some of my jewelry designs. After struggling with cheap cutters, I decided to invest in this one and I'm glad I did. It is my new favorite tool. It's definitely larger and heavier than the one I've been using, but still much easier to use. It works so much better. No more problems with tubing slipping, the rollers really hold it in place even when cutting off small pieces. Definitely a case of being worth it to pay the higher price for better quality. I'd highly recommend this to anyone cutting large quantities of copper or other soft metal tubing.

You don't have to be a professional to deserve using a professional piece of equipment like this is. This is such high quality that it will make you feel like a pro. It never walks or breaks track. It leaves a very clean cut. The wheel seems to last forever. It is heavy duty and a true pleasure to use. I wasted so much time before struggling with cheaper tube cutters - the frustration wasn't worth the pennies saved. Buy this. Be happy.

I was looking to replace my old tubing cutter as it has become dull and tends to walk instead of providing a nice clean cut. The Lennox tubing cutter was recommended by a friend who works in the HVAC trade. I purchased this cutter on his recommendation and am very happy with the purchase. I have used it to make about hundred cuts on copper tubing ranging from 3/8" to 3/4". The cutter is heavier than the previous cuttr i owned but has a good feel and makes quick clean cuts.

I brought this pricey one as a safety bet. It is perhaps the only one that claims no "walking" or threading. I can always send it back at no loss it if it walks. I kept it.My disappointment was being mislead by one review that the extra wheel is for plastic. The two wheels are identical. On the package it says for copper and other soft (my word) metal like EMT. For hard metal and plastic there are wheels for them. But first you have to find them, and then at a reasonable price not like $10. Of course you can use it to cut plastic with absolutely no problem, but I wonder if the plastic wheel cuts faster and better. This guy is solid and heavy, but if that helps against walking, so be it.I don't think a small amount of walking is critical to everybody. I have been using a $6 copper pipe cutter for building "furniture" using PVC and EMT pipes. I have enough practice so as not to make threads on EMT. On PVC it's harder to avoid particularly now that the wheel is pretty blunt. But with proper techniques, threading will be limited to about one extra thread, an extra 1/32 inch. My point is, I doubt if a 1/16" tolerance will make any difference to a typical plumbing job. Before that I use PVC shears that don't even cut squarely. These imperfections can be designed over. Indeed when assembled, the couplers tend to correct uneven cut lengths and angles, and adapt the pipes to each other.A cutter is much more convenient than using a table saw. I hate the noise of cutting metals and the cleaning up. If I have a dedicated work area (and a cleaner) that will be different. This one cuts PVC and EMT beautifully. Say for a 3/4" PVC pipe, if the length is less than 1', it can stand on it's own vertically on the cut end.It only make sense to secure a tube with the cutting wheel and two roller wheels, a triangle. The extra rollers are to hold different size of tubes better, not to hold a tube altogether. To change cutting wheel, simply unscrew the screw holding the wheel. You cannot screw onto the wheel too tight because there is a spacer like mechanism. There is a little play on the wheel and also a little on the travelling bar. But they don't affect the cut quality.I decided against the quick release mechanism just to play safe. If you work on same size pipes most of the time, the travel of the wheel is limited to the thickness of the pipes, which is a fraction of an inch and doesn't take much time to move the wheel back after each cut. However, this is only true for cheap cutters. The question mark shape of this cutter and the position of the rollers hold the pipes very well. The cutting wheel have to move back a lot more just to let the pipe to get into the hook. (Of course you can always move back the wheel just enough so that you can insert the pipe into the hook.) So a quick release will be helpful. The importance of not walking is that you can tighten the knob with greater force and higher confidence, so you can cut faster. Walking is a time wasting distraction. Also, the tendency of walking increases with shorter pipes. If you want to correct a mistake and cut half an inch from a pipe, it's impossible using shears, difficult with a cheap wheel cutter. The shorter pipe section you can cut, the better you can make good use of a 10' pipe. In "furniture" making, you deal with short pipes all the time, the shortest ones are little more than an inch for joining tee's back to back.I will use one wheel for EMT and one for plastic, until I figure out how good the dedicated plastic wheel will be.

I researched and purchased this to resolve a problem I was having with a cheaper pipe cutter that was "walking" as it cut. Per the manufacturer's claim, this cutter does seem to stay locked in to the grove. (Although I haven't tested it yet with a 1" or larger pipe, where walking is most likely to happen.) It's heavy and solidly built and should hold up even to constant use.One potential down side is that it doesn't have a rapid size adjustment feature that many pipe cutters have, so for a pro that needs to quickly cut frequently varying sizes of pipe, having to screw the cutter wheel in or out might slow them down. However the adjuster does spin quite fast, so a minor price to pay for a high quality cut.
