As my father has gotten older, his ability to remember the day or the week has declined. That and he's not so inclined to monkey around with electronic gadgets, specifically a clock where the time needs to be changed every 6 months. He's had experience with La Crosse products, so I figured he'd be more accepting of something like this from a familiar company. The clock has worked well for him, when he remembers to look at it. The large numbers and letters are easy to read from a distance. And the wood grain look fits his style. He has appreciated having the clock that keeps accurate time that he doesn't have learn how to work. Set it and forget it!!

I knocked off 1 star because it's made in China. (I know, what isn't? I just hoped for some American made but couldn't find one.)It is really nice looking - the wood grain plastic is a matte finish and doesn't look fake but rather stream lined. Yes it has a cord but I like having a consistent back light without wondering how long the batteries will last and I had a plug where I wanted to hang it. It also has a built in stand that works great. (I set it up on a table by my chair while I was checking it all out.)It is easy to read. I have it up on the wall in the bedroom and it is clear when I'm standing up or lying down.I was going to complain that it wouldn't stay backlit even when it was plugged in. Oops! Not completely plugged in. I thought it was but I needed to move the corded end around to clear the plastic. Definitely operator error!I did install my own AA batteries (not included - you need two) and it held all my settings as I moved it around. The batteries did keep the display on and did do back lighting briefly after pressing the snooze button. It is easy to set and you can turn auto daylight savings time OFF. (I live in the smart state of Arizona and we don't mess with our time.) The atomic time seemed to work just fine.I'm amazed at how bright the light was. It acted as a night light for the whole room. I ended up turning it from high to low with 1 tap of the snooze button.I'm really pleased and think I'll buy another for the living room.

I needed a clock I could see from across my den and that had day and date. It also needed a constant backlight so I could see it day and night. Searched a lot of makes and models, realized the backlight in all the clocks is constant ONLY if it is powered by an AC cord. If it is powered only by batteries, or if you only use batteries on a clock that can be powered by both, then the backlight will only light up if you hit the snooze button, and then only for about 5 seconds. Since it was going to be across the room and an alarm wasn't needed, I narrowed my search to power cord models only. This La Crosse Technology 513-1419BL-WAL-INT is exactly what I needed. It also gives you a choice between a field showing seconds, or room temp (C or F). The WAL in the mdl# means the front face is a walnut tone, the BL refers to the black trim around the walnut face. There is another similar model with a slightly different mdl# that is battery only, so be sure you're ordering what you need. My clock came timely and in excellent condition. Very easy to set up, The backlight is a pastel blue and the digits are very distinct and very easy to read from 15 feet, even from my kitchen. It also has a wide view area so you can see it from angles. Mine is on a high fireplace mantel and I have no problem with the angle. You can hang it on a wall but you will need the AC power cord if you want it to constantly light. It also has a built-in stand you can flip out to set on a desk or other flat surface. This simple little clock is the best buy I've made in a long time. Highly recommended!!

Eficaz para personas mayores con problemas de memoria, trabaja muy bien y lo mejor es que funciona con pilas o electricidad. Se puede montar en la pared o en una mesita. El color imitación madera se ve parte de la decoración.

This is a great clock ! I purchased it for an elderly lady who could never remember what day it was . And always wanted to know what time it was . It's very easy for her to see and understand . Some other models had too much information on them , therefore too confusing for someone suffering from dementia . And the woodgrain look is also very nice . She loves it !

I originally ordered this for the bedroom. I wanted a simple alarm clock, one that did not confuse us with two alarms and with music versus buzzer. We decided to use it in the living room instead, and have it near the tv. It makes it so much easier to see what time it is , from both the living room and the kitchen that is open to the living room.Always being able to double check the day and date is helpful , even for those of us who have not begun to show signs of dementia. We are retired and it is easy for us to just forget what the date is. Nice not having to look on the computer.I don't know if the atomic clock setting works. We set the clock manually using the time on our computer and it seems to be right on. I think maybe some have had problems because they plugged it in, did not set it, and then figured it would just set itself. Maybe it does, but the directions says it could take a couple days, so why wait?I put in the batteries, set it, then plugged it in. We prefer it plugged in, to save the batteries for when the power goes out. When plugged it is very well back lite which makes it really easy to see. When running on batteries only it was not back lite. Would still be better than other non-lite clocks, but we like it lit up at night in the dark.As always, be sure to read the directions first. They are well written in understandable English. While it is easy to set, it does not surprise me that sometimes people get a bit confused trying to set it. We have a somewhat similar battery operated clock in the bathroom, so we were familiar with the steps. There is also a web site listed on the directions and likely that might help some that are having problems. Will be buying another one for the bedroom.

Very nice and large display but requires manual intervention of night light. Two-pin plug requires uk adapter or replacement.
