these are great! I needed bookends for my cookbooks on top of the fridge and wanted to use the fleur de lis ones that go in my kitchen. these bookends are tall enough for bigger books, they have a long piece to fit under the books for weight, and a short piece to display my decorative smaller ones. I just tucked them under the bookcovers of the outside books. voila! also—they’re sturdy, well priced and shipped on schedule.

I bought another set of bookends that claimed to be substantial. Unless the books stood exactly upright those bent and sometimes fell over. I bought these to replace those others. These hold my large, heavy cookbooks up, don't bend easily and do not fall over. I should have started with these. They are attractive in a functional way and do the job. Certainly don't appear intrusive.

these are exactly what is represented. I have been using them for a few years now and they work fine. The only caveat is that the steel sheet that they are made from is a little thin and if they are holding up much they bend.

These are large (9" high X 6" width, the part that slips under the books is 6" long), well-built, heavy duty bookends with a simple, utilitarian design. This is just what I was looking for. They work really well keeping in place big, heavy books. The non-skid base (which covers the entire bottom surface) keeps the unit in place and protects your shelf's surface, and the metal is rigid enough that it doesn't bend under the weight of large books. Also, the price is unbeatable at +/-$5 for a pair. I would definitely buy these again. Highly recommended.

There's been some confusion in some of the comments about whether one order of these gives you one bookend or two - I received 2 for each order, and any other way of selling bookends (where you obviously need 2 for them to work) flies in the face of my experience. Super heavy, nicely finished, as described and perfect if you have large or heavy books to hold up.Also, like so many other things in in this world of corporate maximization of Return on Investment (ROI) the local chain stationery stores don't sell this item (which might not be their fastest seller) which used to be SOP, so goodbye chain store, hello Amazon. The sales VP Walmart rid of a while back also seemed to love his ROI over his merchandise, and once he was gone their response was not to return the missing items to the shelves, but rather to put more (junky?) items cluttering the aisles - now once again relatively uncluttered - without many of the missing items returning. Harder to say goodbye to Walmart since their main competitor - K-Mart - is run by one of the kings of ROI.

I read several reviews here claiming that you only get one bookend, not two. That didn't make any sense to me. Nevertheless, I went ahead and ordered two. Now I am the proud owner of two PAIRS of bookends. People, get your act together before you come here and write a review. If there was a mistake in shipping, deal with that. Don't come here and mislead everybody. This reminds me of the yahoos who break something, probably from mishandling, then come and give it one star because it's broken.Now, that's off my chest.These are great bookends that do exactly what I needed. I keep a selection of books on my desk. The desk has a polished wood surface. I had nice, heavy bookends, but whenever I pulled out a book, they would slide and the whole thing would collapse. These simple, office style bookends do the job perfectly. No sliding, no collapsing and they have a nice minimalist tech look that goes with the laptop.

I ordered these bookends to support books of a variety of sizes. These are fairly heavy bookends. They hold my books. They don't slide on the shelves They are not fancy or decorative. They do what bookends are supposed to do. They support even large heavy books well as long as the books aren't too big to fit on/in the shelves. I ordered two pair and despite some of the other reviews I received two pair: i.e. four bookends. I think the confusion might be due to the fact that when they arrive they are snugly "nested". They are fairly priced.
