If you've wanted to work with a microscope but get turned off dealing with most slides, these are different in all the right ways. Usually the edges of the slides are rough and even sharp. As you handle them it's like you can feel them cracking. These have a smooth, solid structure, so they slip into your microscope tray easily. They are so well made and clear and work well with the digital microscopes that you can get for your phone. They are exactly the slides you need and I highly recommend them.

My husband and I are both science geeks and total nerds, so we have been adding home lab equipment as we can find it. We also have a cat that has a tendency to get ear infections, and after our vet showed my husband what it looked like under a microscope, he decided that maybe we could save ourselves some money by doing the "lab work" ourselves. :) Since I have a Chemistry degree and a Biology minor, and I am fascinated by all things scientific, I agreed, and we began looking for all the things we might possibly need for our home lab. :) This is also, admittedly, a GREAT excuse to get geeky equipment because REASONS! The hubby was also quick to point out that this lab equipment would allow him to better test honey and check up on his bees, as well as a myriad of other uses.When I saw this set of glass slides and covers, I knew we had to snatch them up! These could work perfectly for our new home lab. When they arrived, the box was a bit dented, but the goodies inside are just fine. Thankfully, none of the slides or covers we have pulled out seem to be cracked or chipped, which is great. I will say that, while I know these aren't meant to be sterile, I was disappointed that they did seem to have been "pre-cleaned" by an indifferent machine, as there were a few minor smudges on some slides and there was a bit of dust. That being said, they were vacuum-sealed in plastic, which can cause some residual static that could attract dust particles in our decidedly non-sterile apartment, so...Thankfully, the set does come with some very basic tweezers, which is helpful to grasp the covers, as you should preferably NEVER touch them with bare hands to avoid contamination of your fingers AND the slide.It is really nice that these do have the ground-off sides, but be aware that this can cause light artifacting if you aren't used to it, so bear that in mind.All-in-all, we are very pleased with this addition to our laboratory! Now, if we can just find a really good microscope, instead of the antique one that my hubby picked up somewhere, we will be in business! :DI do think these would be just fine for most non-sterile uses, as long as you have some method to clean the slides and make sure to use gloves. Covers are ALWAYS fragile, so be careful! There is a reason that they provide twice as many covers as slides...
